Unemployment extension benefits could discourage job hunting according to a recent pronouncement made by an economist from Harvard University. Right on the heels of Senator Debbie Stabenow’s (D-MI) filing of the Tier 5 “Americans Want to Work Act” (S.3706), which is aimed at extending benefits for 99ers, an economist from Harvard said benefits for the jobless could dampen the unemployed Americans’ desire to go job searching.
Director Jeffrey Miron of Undergraduate Studies in the Department of Economics at Harvard University told FoxNews that when unemployment extension benefits are available, not every jobless worker would jump at the first job that comes along. Miron made the pronouncement just days after a move for a Tier 5 bill was introduced in the Upper House by Senator Stabenow – news that was welcomed by 99ers.
On August 4, Senator Debbie Stabenow (D-MI) filed a Tier 5 unemployment extension 2010 bill that aims to provide 99ers, those who have expended the maximum 99 weeks of federal unemployment assistance, with an additional 20 weeks of benefits.
Interviewed by FoxNews on Saturday, Miron said that when faced with a less desirable (i.e., less paying) job, some unemployed workers would rather choose to continue receiving unemployment extension benefits “for extra weeks or months…for a little bit longer.” His line of argument could rile up the emotions of the 99ers who are clamoring for a Tier 5 unemployment extension bill.
Miron also does not agree with the notion that unemployment extension will put money in the hands of the unemployed which they will spend and therefore stimulate the economy. “That money came from the taxpayers, so others in the economy have less money to spend now or in the future,” he said. In a message to those who are defending unemployment extension (i.e., 99ers, Tier 5 advocates), Miron suggests using the argument for compassion rather than the claim that it stimulates the economy. “At what point do we say we have to put aside compassion and worry about efficiency and worry about giving people stronger incentive to go back to work, even if it’s not the job they’d most prefer?” he added.
Senator Stabenow’s Tier 5 unemployment extension bill for 99ers (S.3706) is expected to be taken up by the Senate after its month-long recess.

I don’t think so Harvard person. I need more money to survive on then what unemployment pays out. You may want to rethink yourself!
Another Harvard Grad with an idea…..Bush, Obama, Skilling……..These Ivy League pigs have to have more and more money so they can go to their next party and see Mumsy and Winthrope. Give me a break.
We can hunt jobs all we want. The problem, we can’t create them. Now how does getting money for unemployment or not help creat jobs. Getting it does however mean maybe we’ll be able to keep a roof over our heads and something to eat, while the politians play games with our lives.
What a ridiculous thing you say Mr. Harvard Economist. Perhaps that’s what wrong with the economy. Know it alls that just don’t know what they’re talking about.
When they say these things, I always think common sense would go a long way. Have there been reports that millions of jobs are sitting there unfilled because we don’t want to work because we’d rather have $275 less taxes (we do pay tax) to live on rather than to have our $38,000 per year jobs back. I do have everything where I can keep my home on this amount but I can’t just take a job at McDonalds and get by on what they would pay.
And then there’s the gas and the expense of looking for a job. Wake up people.
Keep thinking like that and soon that mcjob won’t there either…move on it, take that job. Living off the govt will ruin you forever. My aren’t there a lot whiners on tonite…makes my job that much more fun and easier.
thats because your a douchebag dash!!!
Dash you jerk, didn’t say McD had a job. Why don’t you get one there and try to live on that and still have a roof over your head and food to eat and I’ll take your job. Then lets see how much you whine. Just because I’m unemployed, doesn’t mean I’m a throw away.
Everybody has had rough times, the difference is I don’t whine about it or post about on the internet. I DO something about it. That is the main difference between me and you people.
I have applied for 100′s of private jobs. 100 times for state jobs over 50 times for Federal employment. Often I will receive perfect scores on the tests. We started a war in Iraq based upon the false premise that WMD’s were a serious threat. All the returning soldiers to what should be considered an illegally fought war are guess what, getting military preference. I do not fault the soldier I fault the illogic of giving military preference for a war based upon a hoax.
I have two college degrees and am a dues paying union member. I am not limited by education or having a strong back. Just jack asses who insist on forcing the middle class into dead end poverty inducing employment.
I work part time as a furniture mover and part time as a landscaper. These jobs are for roughly half the wages I was paid 15 years ago.
To dash from the post above, WHAT MAKES YOU THINK WE’RE NOT DOING SOMETHING ABOUT IT??????? WE’RE SAYING WE ARE DOING SOMETHING ABOUT IT. BUT THERE AREN’T ENOUGH JOBS OUT THERE FOR EVERYONE. YOU’RE JUST ATTACKING US AND MAKING IT WORSE. WE’RE ON HERE NOT “WHINING” BUT TRYING TO EDUCATE PEOPLE WHAT’S REALLY GOING ON SO THAT POSSIBLY THE SMART ONES WOULD UNDERSTAND. WE DON’T NEED PEOPLE LIKE YOU ATTACKING US. WE’VE HAD ENOUGH OF THAT THE LAST 2 YEARS. WE ARE NOT THE ENEMY OF THIS COUNTRY. QUIT TRYING TO THROW THE SPOTLIGHT OFF THE ONES WHO ARE CAUSING ALL OF THIS. IT’S NOT US!!!!! JERK!!!!
Ohhh its educational? Blind leading the blind kind of thing? I think thats the point, to make it so hard on you people that you will rethink how your approaching the situation. Listen to him and not the your fellow misguided ue. And its still whining!
Lean how to spell and write.. or maybe you do work at McDonalds… can I get an order of fries with that crap your serving…Idiot.
Listen here you little f**k. I went from making $29.75 an hour working 50 hrs + a week. I have a wife who works 40 hrs a week now. We have 3 kids who need food clothes, and supplies for school that starts in a little over a week. I make $303 on unemployment before taxes. Come tell me to my face I’d rather be on unemployment, cashing out my 401k and using our life savings up, and selling things to make ends meet. Crawl back into your mom and dads basement and slam the door on your dick! People like you who get on these site and put people down do more harm than good. We don’t need people like you making us feel any worse than we already do.
O Mcdonalds is hiring by me. 2 days a week – 6 hrs per shift @ $8 dollars an hr. Do the math. It wont even pay for gas.
The only thing we see you posting on the internet Dash is that you are an ASSHOLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and I’m sure i can say that from all of us like one person said go crawl back into mommy and daddy’s basement or the hole that you crawled out of.We do not need comments from an ASSHOLE like you!!!!!!!!!!!! Just remember Karma be careful what you say it may come back to bite you in the ass it always does.
Well, what do you expect from an ivory tower Harvard economist who’s never had to experience what real unemployed workers are experiencing in this economy. To make matters worse, he’s spouting all this pablum on the Faux News and Cartoon Channel.
Here we go again .More republican propaganda ! Get a clue Jeffry Moron oops I mean Miron we need decent paying jobs plain and simple . Keep talking your nonsence none of us believe it . Tell your republican buddies we not job growth not handouts that we alerady paid into.
So this Harvard economist tells this to Faux News….Oh please. This sort of thinking has been debunked for quite some time now. What did Havrard have this guy locked up in the bell tower for the last year and they just released him to interview with Faux. my favorite quote from the article: “That money came from the taxpayers, so others in the economy have less money to spend now or in the future.” Need we remind Mr Moron that unemployment is fully taxable? How will others has less money? You pay you taxes…you have no idea where it goes and have little to no say on how it is distributed. This is just a bogus Faux story…..total and unmitigated BS.
Here’s the lovely ivory tower Harvard (employed and well paid) academic’s contact info in case anyone wants to contact him and give him a dose of reality:
E-Mail: miron@fas.harvard.edu
Tel: 617-495-4129
Fax: 617-495-8570
Thank you :) maybe if they hear real peoples stories they will have a different attitude…
I guess he also “forgot” to factor in that companies do not want to hire the long term unemployed as was reported several weeks ago. Nah, that might not actually work with his misguided theory.
We should encourage this Harvard “expert” to preform a real Harvard Study by interviewing real unemployed people. Then he can give actual facts instead of his personal views.
Dear Harvard person, you have no clue to what is out there in the job market! I have applied for quite a few jobs at the lower pay, but for every job I apply for there are at least 50 person for that same job. My credit is just awful due to lack of finding work and the unemployment income I use to get, it is no way close to what I use to make monthly! I really had to cut just like other American’s family had to. The money I use to get from unemployment wast to pay my bills, food, gas, car insurance, just the basics. I haven’t had the money to a doctor. Mr. Miron you have started people to think you are a moron and we know you are just trying to get on TV and your name in print. I pay my taxes do you??
THIS GUY REALLY NEEDS A REALITY CHECK.BECAUSE OF UNEMPLOYMENT FORCED TO GO BANKRUPT NOW EVERYTHING IS FU-KED UP BAD CREDIT NO BODY WANTS TO HIRE YOU ,INSURANCE SKY-ROCKETED BECAUSE I HAVE BAD CREDIT I AM PAYING $6600.00 A YEAR FOR 3 CARS THIS MONTH I AM DONE WILL HAVE NO INSURANCE, NO MONEY. BEEN LOOKING FOR WORK FOR 2 YEARS OH AND IF YOU ARE UP IN AGE THEY DON’T WANT TO LOOK AT YOU. ??? THE GOVERNMENT SPEND BILLIONS OF DOLLARS HELPING FOREIGNERS ANYTIME THERE IN TROUBLE AND THE POLITICIANS OF THOSE COUNTRIES END UP KEEPING ALL THAT MONEY FOR THEMSELVES AND NOTHING HAPPENS TO THEM
Dear Director Jeffrey Miron of Undergraduate Studies in the Department of Economics at Harvard University,
I understand what you are saying. But, as a 99er I have lost my job I loved! I really want to go back to work. I do not want my sons to worry if we will lose our home. I want them to pay attention at school. So, we all know you only look at this from an economic standpoint. Don’t you have a heart? Until you are in our shoes you can take your studies and throw it out of the window! You have no idea what the 99ers are going through! We are losing homes, cars, money for food, having utilities turned off and on like yo-yos, and taking our children, who will run this country, out of college because we cannot afford it! Thank God for some compasion from Senator Debbie Stabenow (D-MI). Thank you!
Yo IDIOT
or should I say another IVORY TOWER REPUBLICAN screw up
The unemployed need help to get back in the work force and when your buddies at SONY and Emerson ( Google unemployed need not apply ) to name a few refuse to consider the unemployed the rate will stay high
Actually it is Sony Ericksson and yes I will be sure to tell everyone not to buy their crummy phones. However you may as well Boycott everything. We can fight back and stop stampeding around stores on Black Friday. If we can make this christmas season a big BUST, then corporate america might have to work to fix the negative perception everyone has of them. But if we keep buying their chinese made garbage no one will have a job.
What a bunch of BULL!!!!! Being highly educated, skilled with no criminal record applying for job after job after job with no response with some even saying they prefer not to hire candidates who have been out of work a year or more DISCOURAGES ME AND PLENTY OF OTHERS NOT TO JOB HUNT BUTTWIPE!!!!!! GTFOH!!!! That pitiful unemployment check is NOTHING to be lazy with son… But I forgot, being a HARVARD ECONOMIST (with rich parents I assume) you wouldn’t know how it feels to be in this situation. You are so out of touch. Can I have YOUR job?!!
So your highly educated and you have so much to offer, if only you could just get one kind-hearted older soul to hear you out. C’mon living off the govt is messing with your head…no clear thinking it seems. Oh and that little name you’ve given yourself is way inconsistent with what you are trying to say about yourself. Ok back to work!
It’s keeping food on his table. Have you ever been really hungry Dash?
Negative. And why would anyone want to talk about being REALLY hungry. We don’t care.
That’s probably the only true thing you’ve said.
This is very foolish – with a massive house payment and taxes in NJ and no health benefits I would rather collect $1600 a month than make $4000 a month on UI
just to wait for the perfect job. Now with no benefits and an MBA and no job I await tier 5 to save me. I have
already lost my car… and some Harvard idiot saying that I would rather collect…what a niwit..what an asshole
Wow a nice example of excess. And 1600 more dollars of free govt money is going to help you how? No one can solve your problems sir, only you can and should begin with trying not to get hooked on govt.
HEY DA$H I AGREE WITH DAVID YOU ARE A FU-KING ASSHOLE THAT NEEDS TO BE IN OUR SITUATION TO SEE HOW GREAT YOU WOULD FEEL.ASSHOLES LIKE YOU NEED A LESSON OF THE REAL WORLD.GROW UP BE FOR REAL.I BET YOU DON’T HAVE A GIRLFRIEND THATS WHY YOU WRITE THE SHIT YOU DO,GO GET LAID
It’s not free, we’re American taxpapers. That 1600 kept a roof over me and my family until I could get a job, which I start tomorrow, praise God and it’s a great job. I was sitting here waiting on the call. Folks, talk back to this jerk. I don’t know his story but he’s just here to cause trouble. The unemployed are trying to find a voice because NOONE has given them one. Possibly the reason most done want to hear it is for fear it will happen to them or just that Americans are so self centered all they can see is the little world they’re in. When did Americans quit caring when they’re neighbors were down? You Dash need to get a life. Doesn’t sound like you’re such a ball of fire working today if all you have to do is attack the unemployed. Bet you kick puppies too. I have a lot to do. Good luck folks.
Its because you whiners are basically irrelevant. And it is free money. You are getting govt money and not working. I seriously doubt the amount of money you were taxed would even close to an amount that is consistent with 99 weeks worth of handouts.
Dash – you have your head shoved so far up your ass you must really enjoy the view. May YOU join the ranks of the unemployed VERY soon. Then take all your smart ass remarks and serve them on a plate, because very soon I’m sure you’ll be eating those very same words!
Just goes to show, EVEN AT HARVARD YOU CAN BE AN IDIOT! But I already knew that. FYI Harvard moron, let me educate you a little. The poorer people make less and spend more in comparison to their income. They have a much higher monetary turnover than rich people, who are simply money hoarders with no life. Therefore, they end up paying more taxes anyway, since they pay state taxes on everything they buy, thus stimulating the economy. You dont even want me to start with how rich people use loopholes specifically designed for rich people to aviod taxes, but I’m sure you dont want to me let everyone know that, huh.
To Jeffrey Miron AKA MORON:
I have been out of work for a year and a half, and I applied for hundreds of jobs, very few interviews, no offers. The real problem is rich POS’s like yourself, all you retards did this to this country worrying about how to outsource jobs to make more money. Also to educate you, hiring personal WILL NOT hire anyone who they think is smarter, have more qualifications, or previously made more money then the person doing the hiring because they feel that there job may be threatened. Before you go off rattling this crap off about unemployed people not looking for jobs or wanting to accept lower paying jobs you better learn what your saying. Obliviously “HARVARD” must of lower there standards to allow a DUMB-ASS like you to go there, or work there. Or is it because MOMMY & DADDY had tons of money to always buy your way through anything? You need to mind you business and keep your dumb comments to yourself since you will never know what it is like to want and need.
Yep. And they don’t want to hire we who have been out of work. I had an employment agency the other day suggest that I take a 2 to 4 week job to start to brush up on my skills. (didn’t offer me one, just suggested it) I advised them that my skills of 35 years are just fine. She was younger and looked at me like I was from another planet. While telling me how to dress (I’m a pretty good dresser), clean my shoes and have them sitting there ready to go before the interview…….. She was definitely gonna have me a job within 2 weeks, 4 weeks ago.
You sound old. Also it seems the world has passed you by Jack. Maybe she didn’t notice the shoes. I can humliate those kind of girls…very easily..but then again I’m me.
Prove positive of what a jerk you are. I believe statement like that about age would get potential employers sued if we could prove it. The only problem is, we can’t.
Life hasn’t passed me by but jerks like the one that wrote this article are slandering us and should be sued for defermation of character by the long term unemployed.
Its never anyone’s fault. But the positive is, all you can do is whine and have no ability to change anything and thats all it will ever be. If its that important to you go get a lawyer. But I suspect most of you have no committment to follow up or do anything.
More lies and slander. You are the most miserable excuse for a human being I’ve ever seen.
BS, period! PS: What a moron… just see what happens when the election results are in.
Another brilliant know it all with absolutely no understanding of what we are really up against! Imagine That?! It’s easy when you don’t have to deal with the ramificationa the unemployed are dealing with to be so jaded and make stupid assumations. How Presumtuous!
Miron is a Presumtuous Moron.
He doesn’t get that statistically there are really 7 people for every job available. Or the fact that everyone is already applying for lower pay scale jobs just to get their foot in the door. Or that given the chance we would do anything to keep ourselves out of poverty and not be at the mercy of this screwed up capitalist government. Also that many 99ers have not been receiving unemployment for months and they are still not able to find work which at this point I highly doubt they would be real picky about because they’re living on nothing!
Your assumation dear moron is not correct. You just put another dagger in the heart of a down trodden proud people. It’s easy to kick people when they’re down, isn’t it? Right now Americans need a hand up without having to become indigent in the meantime.
Jeffrey Miron YOU ARE AN IDIOT! GET A LIFE….GET A GRIP ON REALITY
Oh yeah, we the unemployed like living day-to-day not knowing if we well have a roof over our heads and food on our tables. Oh yes, you can’t forget the constant collection calls from creditors, that’s also a “perk” being umemployed.
BE REAL, Jeffrey Moron-Miron, this is no life! This is survival. You think that an extenstion for 20 more weeks will make me not seek employment and continue to live this “life of luxury” that I am living now, YOU ARE SO WRONG!
simply put in a way everybody can understand this gentleman is a IDIOT if he think drawing unemployment benefits discourages people from looking for work. The jobs are not actually jumping out of the woodwork and if you are over the age of 45 like so many of us then good luck finding work. The employers are using very tackfull ways to age discriminate against us.
|I hired and fired for the last 10 years and can see exactly what potential employers are doing.
This gentleman needs to go back to Harvard for a few more years.
We 99ers are not looking for a handouts and this is not a paid vacation. We are productive citizens that have been contributing to our country’s prosperity for years. Employers paid for this employment benefit and taxpayers (which include our contribution for many years) will be paying for the extension.
Mr. Harvard degree, saying that giving long term unemployment benefit will only create disincentive for job seekers is something that you have learned from a text book that was written ten years ago. Times have changed and this is not the same economy that you had ten years ago. You are not in touch of what real life situation is and what we are going through.
If the government cannot figure out how to pay for this 20 weeks extension take it out from our social security benefit we have been contributing to this fund for years.
They’re wanting to give that to illegals and others that didn’t pay into it. They talk about us and say things like we’re lazy and unskilled. Well let us use all the taxes we paid in all of our lives. This is not welfare, we are taxpayers and the very nature of what it is. To be eligible you have to have worked for a certain period of time and dismissed at no fault of your own. Of course there are those that are even trying to take away the Soc Sec benefits for when we retire because all the money will be blown by then.
I’ve always been a republican but what about them blocking this money but agreeing the other day to send a large amount overseas to help them. What about YOUR people? I want a list of all those who voted that way and make sure that they get voted OUT.
Harvard or whatever, you need to study real life and get out of the books.
I am 59 1/2 and an out of work land surveyor. I lost my job after 30 years!!! That was June 2009. I did and went to every location for “job training” that unemployment sent me to with no results – except the enormous gas bill I ran up traveling two hours for weeks to upstate NY locations, I have also applied to jobs that include Starbucks and Bed Bath and Beyond, hotels ans many others I have asked the employment offices for help to no avail. My wife is a secretary and is holding us together but its a struggle to keep up. In addition my son lost his job 9 months ago and cannot find a job – a college grad. Call us lazy? Do you think we like no being able to support our families?? Congress wake up and try to live on $365.00 a week November is coming! You better start looking for another job yourselves!!!
Director Jeffrey Miron of Undergraduate Studies in the Department of Economics at Harvard University. Maybe he should be In our shoes, It really pisses me off when some Idiot comes up with this stuff.
And another thing! We are not lazy – Congress and all the other Dems including Mr. Obama promised change – we got change all right – for the worst! Our infrastructure is falling down around us, highways, bridges are falling apart and Mr. Obama fiddles around while this country and its hard working American families are going under. Too old to hire, too young to retire!! Wake up people – wake the hell up! Remember in November!!!
Professor Miron’s thoughts are based on THEORY not fact. And theories such as Rocket Scientists are what gave birth to this mess.
Here are the facts from a PhD of Street Life.
*Your theory will in fact generate additional crime, costing innocent taxpayers, insurance companies, and not to mention Police, a hell of a lot more grief and financial loss.
*Your theory will in fact generate additional stress on already overloaded Social Programs (both taxpayer funded and faith base funded), to repair broken lives, families, and those who abandon hope and turn to theories that substance abuse will at least relieve their hoplessness.
Your theory suggests the fact that you have never had a real job, been screwed by those you voted for and trusted, and live in some sort of cloud. I have never met a Harvard graduate who wasn’t admitted on the basis that they were somehow connected to the self serving machine good ole’ boy network.
May God have mercy on Prof. Miron — for he does not have a clue?
May God’s abundant mercy flow on all those who have been falsely punished by corporates who have released long term, dedicated, employees who were all but indentured servants at ages (over 55) for the greed — and, simply, because THEY COULD ! My family will not recover from this insult financially, but most importantly, will this country recover morally??
It would be easier for employers/taxpayers if they would simply reduce the average hours of current workers and hire the unemployed, giving preference to long-term unemployed. Also, employers have to quit being so lazy and cheap in training people. I heard there are welding jobs in my area. I offered to be trained in these to to ANY type of job. They just say “oh, we don’t want to take time to train anybody – that would mean more work for us! We just want people who already know how to do it”. So, there you go – they are the lazy ones.
This idiot economists logic is likened to someone asking for life saving medication during cancer and the doctor saying if I give you this medicine then you will stop trying to live. That is the same logic being applied to the Tier 5. We need the lifeline and that does not mean we have stopped looking, applying, taking jobs that are way below what we used to be doing 2 to 3 years ago. Talk about throwing gasoline on an already frustrating and discouraging situation. Geeesh someone please wake up already this is not like any recession anymore, Obama keeps giving bailouts on the mortgages but that does no good. Stop the freakin bailouts for crying out loud! We need income to pay for our living not just 3 months but much longer than that. Forget helping other countries now, we need the help. Senators Forget going on your luxury vacations and breaks– stay at your job and do it. And do it quickly. This reminds me of the history books where the imperialists lived in the mansions on the hill and the common folk just had it and revolted and the ones lucky to stay alive lived in poverty from then on also.
How dare Mr. Harvard make his idiotic comments re: an extension for the “99ers”. We are not lazy, in my case age payed a big part in my termination as a manager for 15 years in a big box store. My termination was ruled wrongful by Labor and Industry. I had been employed ever since graduating high school, never once collected unemployment. Again, too old to hire, old enough to retire but need to work to pay for taxes and medical coverage. Wake up Jeffrey Miron, your speaking like a Moron!!
I gave him a piece of my mind. Just email him. Yes, I live in California and I cannot take a minimum wage job because the whole check will go to rent.
I wonder how much money this moron from Harvard makes…I was making 48.000 a year and now i get a phone call from McDonalds for 7.25 per hour…Shut the f**k up and don’t publish something you don’t know about…it doesn’t stimulate the economy…how do you figure…..the money is from taxpayers…what am I you idiot…i don’t pay taxes….Why don’t you go ahead and give some more money to Chrysler corporation and Wall street where the workers make $60 per hour…I hate stupid people when they dont know what they’re talking about….Tier 5 has to go through…even if it is compasion…or things will get worse..for everyone….
JEFFREY ( DUMB ASS ) MIRON SO YOU DONT THINK US 99ERS NEED A FIFTH TIER BECAUSE IT DISCOURAGES JOB HUNTING SHOW US WHERE THE JOBS ARE WHY NOT DO A STUDY ON HOW WE CAN STURVIVE ON NOTHING I THINK WE SHOULD ALL CONTACT MIRON AND TELL HIM TO WAKE UP SMELL THE COFFEE AND STOP DOING THE DRUGS
This Guy’s a clown. Actually it doesn’t matter if you look for work now or not due to the FACT that there are simply no jobs to be had. Im in New york City and am signed up with two head hunters and a temporary jobs service. I have an Accounting Degree and 20 years work experience, including 13 years on the floor of the New York Stock Exchange. I told the two head hunters and the temp service I would take anything even minimum wage. That was 4 months ago. I check in every week with the 3 organization and have not been offered one interview or minimum wage job. This is New York City I’m talking about. THIS COUNTRY IS DOOMED.
when the 99ers starting killing it just wont matter..
So, the bail-outs discouraged rampant speculation, market manipulation, and the auto bail-outs started the big 3 on the path to useful cars that are actually in demand without a housing bubble to create artificial demand?
I didn’t think so.
And the Tier 5 extensions cost A HELL of a lot LESS than Bush’s banskter-bailout-bonus-bill.
Good point!
Is there anyone who does not know what is all that about? Come on people, stop excusing yourselves to DASHes and the Harvard Humpty-Dumpties.
The bill has been introduced, it is the time for them to fire back. Come on, is that all they have got? The heavy guns?? The Head of UNDERgraduate School? Please … Could not find someone from the Graduate School? Do you think he does not know all you are trying to explain to him? That there will be people out of job when there are five and up per each job? It does not take a degree to figure that out. What did you expect of Fox, anyway?
What is disgusting is that they are trying to turn four million into slaves. People with no means and no hope are forced to go work half-price and work well, besides. By the way, that is going on full blast all around. I know the first hand that one of the National Labs is firing older people – professionals, admins, who cares – and hiring younger people for their jobs immediately for less pay. That is how it is done. And you say “McDonald’s” …
In order to understand our government. We must consider the powers that be being a 99er. I believed that President Obama would hold true to his promise. Nevertheless, having seen jobs by the millions being outsourced by Corporate America downsizing, greed and complasive CEO’s and politicians. This makes me often wonder. Give Me Liberty OR Give Me Death!!!!!
My fellow 99er’s our Government has signed a proclamation to our DEATH!! Moreover, as we all know our government has formally delivered its dilapidated propaganda of the American dream. However, the 99er’s are the forsaken and foregotten. Our Government commanded the 99er’s to march forward into despair because there are no jobs for us to bear.
In other words by excluding the 99er’s from the HR4213 bill. We are forced to leave behind the loves ones we once cherished, family heirlooms and treasures of what may have been. Because as a man you feel that you can no longer support their needs or hearts.
“A man without a Job” is like a man that does not exist!! And without the HR4213 bill extension the 99er’s will not exist!!! But let me say this! My fellow 99’ers. The way congress thinks today is; let’s roll the dice!!! The 99’ers are not important; “let the chips fall as they may” As they did with the 911 responders.
The Banks and Wall Street are doing business as usual reporting high earnings; High credit card interest rates. Foreclosure’s for the month of June 2010 was 1.5 million!! I’m a true believer in GOD. But I often pray and wonder about my future in America today, the land of equality freedom and liberty.
Again; Mr. President, Congress, Senator’s. You give the 99er’s an executive order. As forgotten bewildered and broken soldiers. We command congress to an extension to liberty justice in the name of survival!!
Rescue the 99er’s from the depths of despair, suicide, homeless and wondering aimlessly in a barren jobless land; for it is your duty as men not leaders to obey and command your OATH! To protect serve your fellow citizen’s without discrimination or malice.
I hereby command all 99er’s to converge on Washington D.C. on 9/11/2010 in the name of survival and not to sit back as peasants to your own execution. Remember your voice and vote counts. Let Washington hear us as well…. Send your voices, thoughts, concerns and hearts. Yes We Will And Yes We CAN!!!!!
Regards, R
Read my other reply…Revolution is the last resort but the time is now!
Hey Rubin,
I agree with you. We have been sacrificed as the collateral damage. It is extinction. Yes, they did the simple math. They do not need four millions because it is a little not handy to deal with us two months before the elections. They still have citizens left that will be physically around to vote for them, aside of all illegals who mow their lawns and type D, F, J, and other visas who are producing their crap but cannot vote, thank God!
What can we do – Yes, We CAN, huh? – we can unite and VOTE. Join the Union of Unemployed, sorry they do not allow links here, just “google” it. There are other unions of the same kind. Yes, we can march on Washington and other big cities. No revolution, no violence, but the nation must see what is going on. We are not demanding tier 5, although we need it, we are demanding jobs. Can they give them to us? If yes, I need to see a work order right here in my hand. If not – then Tier 5. If not – the emergency relief job program, re-training program with a guaranteed job at the end, a tent for each of us who lost home or cannot pay rent. We do deserve a tent no less than people in Haiti.
This is exactly the kind of delusional and ignorant “thinking” that got us where we are today. Pathetic. And to add fuel to the fire I just saw on TV where a Republican is advocating raising the age of SS retirement to 70. Just another way to hinder the survival of people age 62+ who cannot find work and so are forced to draw their lower amount SS in order to survive.
It’s time for some major protesting and maybe even a good ol’ Revolution “American style”.
A revolution must happen very soon. Looking for leaders and financing. Should not be directed at the brainwashed Americans but and the criminals in Washington all the way up to the puppeteers in the Fed reserve and the banking elite families that have their “New World Order” plans in progress. And remembering NOT to play into their hands.
I hope to see as many people that can possibly make it to the 99er’s rally on Wall street thursday at noon. It’s time to stand up and show these scumbag politicans that we mean business.
I can not believe that congress thinks unemployment extension will stop 99ers from looking for a job. First of all most people can not live on 300 a month. Now adays that will not even pay electric, rent and if you have a family, not even food. It is because 99ers are lazy, according to congress, but it does not stop congress from spending millions on parties, etc. I would like to have the money they spend alone on “having a good time” or just impressing the rich!!!!
Jeffrey Miron, with all of your education sir, you are a giant A$$! Better check yourself, all that money you put out for an education doesn’t seem to be working. Do the math you idiot! One job, 50 people applying for it…okay 1 gets it, the other forty nine are still UNEMPLOYED! You pompous ass.
It seems possible that Harvard may have sucked knowledge out of your brain rather than implanting it into it. You are out of touch with many realities and give
IVY league rs a worse reputation than they had already.
Harvard guys why you dont try to find solution to the crisis. This country is sinking and now are a lot of people losing hope and desperate for solutions. Stop trying to hurt unemployed like me, I lost my job, my home and I living in a room with my baby and my 14 months daughter. Try to go back to college did first semester but is impossible tu finish because no money and much stress. Sometimes when I driving back from a job imterview with not job I think about just crash my car on highway so died and my wife can get my 50k live insurance. This is sad but is true.
DON’T do or even think it! That is what they want. Believe it or not! It is better to fight than end it all, keep pushing on.
What dont they get about there are no jobs ? I have tried for a lesser job, a file clerk , a temp job doing anything, even though it will not pay my mortgage that my old job used to, hell how do they we all bought a house were now going to lose , by being picky and lazy ?
They wont hire us for a lessor job, they want someone use to earning less wages so they will stay with them. WTF dont they get when they talk about us not willing to take a lessor job. Let me ask the proffessor to even pretend he has no job anymore and GO APPLY FOR A LESSOR JOB IN ANY FIELD and see if they hire you ! Freeakin go live in our shoes before you made such stupid remarks ! At least go undercover and research it for yourself you idiot !
99er’s are the people looking for jobs extensively now. Please, it’s not even worth responding to! I wonder if he paid back his school loans and is up to date with the I.R.S.
I’m concidered a 99r but have only recived 68 weeks. Since there is no tier 5 my payments stop a long time ago. I’m out there every day looking for something..anything. I have even applied for cleaning jobs, but because I’m not bilingual I’m not hired. I re apply to places and even have gone so far as to ask for my old job back several times. I have not recived payments for 18 weeks now and I will continue to look for work. Also I was required to submit my jobs searches in order to recive my bi weekly benifits if I did not I would not get paid, so i really do not think that adding more weeks will cause people to stop looking for work. There are rules!! oh and the $192..00 a week I was reciving was nothing compared to what I was making at my last job. Good luck to all of you who need jobs, hope that you will survive until you find one…
Ok this is the address phone and email of the ass……. So call and say thanks for be so smart.

I wish i had their jobs! who gets one month vacation these days anyway. Maybe they shouldn’t get paid for the one month, and have to apply for unemployment themselves, just like union workers do!
I just have thing to say.
the people who disagree with the bill for the 99ers
Are you willing to let me live at your house when I lose mine.
Let me guess, Director Jeffrey Miron has a great job and isn’t concerned about losing it. It seems that the people who are complaining the most about the unemployment benefits are the ones who have jobs. What’s wrong with this picture? Maybe if these Harvard people along with the other Super Intelligent people in the country would focus their energies and spare time on how to create jobs rather than how to benefit themselves and the rich by sending them out of the country we all could have good jobs again.
If the politicians and people like Mr. Miron would get paid for what they actually accomplish, well, they would probably be better off on unemployment. People are tired of lip service from the ones with all the ideas that can’t implement a one of them. How about YOU tightening-up YOUR BELTS for a change, stop throwing money at the most inept organizations in our country. Get a clue, if they couldn’t handle the money before what on earth makes you think that will do it now? Give it to the LITTLE BANKS who survived the mess evidentially they were doing it right.
If you would have given out an equal percent of the 70,000,000,000 bail out money to all homeowners in the country holding a mortgage and specified it could be used ONLY TO PUT TOWARD THEIR MORTGAGE (not cars, trips, etc…) guess what, based on last count of people holding mortgages in the U.S. that figure would be over 10,000 each household. This would keep banks solvent people working and put less people loosing their homes out on the street. A percentage of those people who would be able to pay-off their mortgages with this money would go straight back to the banks and get home improvement loans etc… thus making the economy, contractors etc, and banks even stronger.
How come us stupid people could see this and you smart ones couldn’t? Instead, what did YOU DO? Give money to executives with clauses that say they have the money coming and they don’t care where it comes from. How about this, FIRE THEM! You would still be money ahead even if you had to pay this protected severance pay like a leading home improvement store. Evidently they weren’t doing their job in the first place so why keep them to do more damage. If we don’t do our jobs do we get a raise? I think you know the answer to that.
When the needs of the average citizens don’t personally touch our leaders lives in some way those leaders become detached and desensitized to what is happening around them. The first Presidents of our country BEFORE George Washington had it right, very short terms to avoid corruption. This used to be a Country the rest of the world looked-up to both in leadership and quality of life and products. Now we don’t even look-up to ourselves cause we’re ashamed of what we’ve become. Unfortunately, this is not only the leaders fault but our own for allowing it to happen. We elected these people (sort of with the exception of big money) and never held them accountable for their promises and actions or lack of. In closing you may ask, what does this have to do with unemployment? Think about it! Everything! These are some of the reasons we are in the trouble we are today. We stopped looking out for and taking care of each other what did you expect! It’s time to start telling our leaders what to do instead of them telling us how it’s going to be!
Doug, that is a beautiful piece you wrote, and absolutely
the sad truth.
Doug,
I am with you. Keep writing and reminding people to VOTE.
If we and our families and friends – all who can vote – don’t do so, we loose.
VOTE.
Hey, Harvard douche bag – I have been seeking employment for almost two years now. I am college educated and have a pretty good range of experience and skills. I have been applying for any and every job that I think I can do, including administrative assistant positions, office management positions, retail work, waitress gigs, cleaning positions, animal care work, on and on – only to be told, upon follow up of submitting my resume/application, that I will not be granted even an interview because I am over-qualified; this has happened to me over and over again. The positions that I am “qualified” for are so few and far between, and generate so much competition, that it almost feels pointless to even try for them. I don’t know what to do anymore, and I’m nearing my wits end. What is your answer to this, Mr. Harvard dick face?
My benefits ended in June, my 71 year old mother has paid my rent for the past two months, I am on food stamps, I have a hole in my tooth where a filling dropped out, but no money/insurance to go to the dentist with. On top of that, having no job to go to for the past two years has made me feel like a purposeless and depressed piece of shit – and you claim that I am choosing this? Go crawl under a rock and die already, you out-of-touch asshole.
Guys like this hide in their cushy jobs in academia because they can’t make it in the real world. His mission in life is to talk with pompous authority about an issue he couldn’t possible comprehend during his charmed life.
The real incompetent ones become part of Obama’s economic team and couldn’t create a job in our economy if their lives depended on it.
You can always tell a Harvard man,but you can’t tell them much.
Doug I ll hire you. But Im in the same position even worse. Doug for president
i guess you guys will say im just one of the exceptions but ive been out of work for 73 weeks and dont get me wrong i like getting my 290 a week but im not remotely looking for work because i have an associates degree in buisness management and i just as soon sit around and get 290 a week as long as they will give it to me… there are jobs out there and let me tell you that when i run out of unemployment ill get a job even if it is flipping a burger for min wage and you can tell me those jobs aint out there so you 99ers are as lazy as hell… AS I AM RIGHT NOW but get a clue you dont want to work or you would be working i see help wanted signs in fast food places everywhere but you only make what you would get on unemployment so you dont want to do it and your sitting around waiting on another extention quit waiting and get off your ass and feed the damn kids
man lets hate on the educated man i wish i would have just sat around watching cheech and chong videos if you can’t find a job in 99 weeks your either a moron, lazy or sitting around wanting on someone to wipe your ass get a job
Hey Will,
Watch out for Karma’s consequences…… How dare you beat on the down-trodden people.
I believe you are a very unhappy person inside – I’m right aren’t I?
You are a very cruel person who needs mental help. This is the last time I am replying to your insane messages, you are not worth my time.
karma is for the weak-minded. No, he’s better than you and he knows it. You should want to try and be successful.
We have been successful and will be again Jerk.
You better hope you do not lose your job. You sound like you are completely illiterate. Nobody would ever hire you.
Typical employed rich comment. We will trade places with you any day. Try living like us and going through what we have been through. Remember what goes around comes around!
Hes not saying he wants to trade places with you. You people seem to think this is some enviable position to be in — always asking to trade places with successful people. Don’t you want to try and be successful for yourself?
Are you slow Dash? We were successful and we lost our jobs at no fault of our own. We cannot find work. There are not enough jobs out there. The longer it takes the more negatively we’re looked at especially due to articles like this and people like you. Just to still be alive and kicking at this point is because we’ve fought our way thru it. You need to shut up. You can’t possibly relate to these hurting people. And except by the grace of God go you also.
They push your buttons. Its called negative reinforcement.
Somebody is getting hired. If you would stop with the self pity and go do something about it you just might get hired too. But most of the people that comment on these boards about their unimportant lives seem to be in a race to see who is going to be the last one hired. One story by one story we will break you.
So you’ve learned a few terms. Why don’t you quit hitting people over the head with them.
At the end of 2006, H3 unemployment which is approximately the number of unemployed collecting benefits was 4.5% and H6 which includes those whose benefits have expired and the so-called “discouraged workers” was in the vicinity of 9%. Both of these numbers exclude agricultural workers which would add another 4%. Today, 3 1/2 years later, H3 unemployment is in the vicinity of 10% and H6 unemployment is in the vicinity of 20% and the size of the potential workforce has grown.
Clearly there are fewer jobs than there were three years ago. Clearly there are more people seeking work. There is no recovery without jobs. There is no economic growth in America. “People” aren’t getting hired. That premise is false. If the amount of fruitless effort being put forth by people seeking work could be included in the GDP, the economy would appear very robust.
The McDonald’s manager isn’t going to hire and train the out-of-work computer programmer who will leave at the first opportunity they get. The McDonald’s manager will hire someone content to earn minimum wage who is going to stay a while and be worth the training investment.
The reason why unemployment benefits should continue is simple. The cause of unemployment is government action. The cause of the high level continuing is government intervention. The government is soaking up the available credit in the markets in financing and refinancing $3.7 trillion of debt this year and a like amount next year. This drain of capital from the economy stagnates business growth and thus job growth.
There was a depression in 1920. The government did nothing. It lasted about 16 months. The pain was severe but brief.
There was a depression in 1930. The government intervened repeatedly. It lasted over a decade. The pain lingered on and on. This is the course we are on now.
There are cuts the government should make right now. Some of them large. Unemployment benefits are not one of them. The willfully unemployed are that 4.5% who were out of work in 2007. The rest do want to get back to work and are trying very hard to do so.
Since the history, facts, and numbers don’t support your premises and you don’t like to acknowledge reality, feel free to resort to cowardly ways by speculating and talking about and attacking me.
this country is in tyranny it has been taken by the rich and we the people need to take it back
Will shut up. Just get out of the closet
Take a look at this guys blog at Harvard. He supports the views of his republican friends. If he were truly aware of where the unemployed 99′ers come from (educated, over 40+, etc..) he certainly wouldn’t have made the comments he did. Tell you what, let’s pull his job, put him on the streets and see what he has to say then!?! People that never face hard times are easy to criticize those in tough times. Check out his blogs on this website at http://jeffreymiron.com/. His twitter address @jeffreyamiron. Perhaps Jeffrey needs to be educated on the life of a 99′er. Another good old Republican. Hang in there 99′ers.
take that stupid ass fire him take away his money home and car then tell that jackass to go find a job, with a Harvard degree you would think he had more sense, what a dumb ass.
Stupid Harvard person!!! If you’ve never been in the shoes of a 99er, shut your mouth!!! I reached the 99 weeks, back in April and have yet to find a job, in Puerto Rico, which has practically been at about a 16% unemployment rate since the start of the recession. I’ve lost everything I had, I even had to go back and live with my parents until I get back on my feet. The economic situation affected my marriage and now I’m facing divorce. So don’t give me that shit that unemployment keeps people from looking for jobs because, months have passed since my last check and I still haven’t found a thing. The extension will help us survive until we land a job.
Academics rarely have a grasp on the real world. They espouse their theories with authority and some so-called news agency reports it as though it were a valid statement. If this joker actually had a grasp on the real situation, he would quickly realize that keeping your home and your possessions is incentive enough to find a job. That would be if those jobs existed. Like the rest of you, I apply continually for positions that I’m qualified for, overqualified for and under qualified for. In a number of cases, I have been contacted after a period of time to let me know that they have decided not to hire anyone at all. I have accepted positions that paid less than what I made before the Bush reign of disaster and the employers used my experience to get them through a busy time and laid me off after a short time. This puts us in a position of being taken advantage of as well. If this chump were actually participating in the real world rather than the theoretical one, he might have something to say that would be worth hearing. Jeffrey, I’d check to see if there’s a money-back guarantee on that sheepskin. Someone took you for a ride.
It is 11:50 at night and I am taking some time off of applying for jobs to write you this letter. I’d like to start by saying that I hope you take the time to read it. I tend to agree with your argument that when given a free ride some people will not make an effort to get in their own car. I tend to disagree with conclusion that a tier five extension of unemployment benefits will discourage job hunting. If anything, your analysis applies to deadbeats who like to live at or below the poverty line. I am a 33 year old man who has worked all of his life. I lost my job in March of 2009 and have yet to find employment. I have applied religiously to an average of six jobs per day with only two interviews and four call backs. I take offense when in a nation where the average rate of unemployment is 11%, people like you state that unemployment extensions keep people from accepting jobs. I’d like to ask you sir, what jobs are those that are being turned down. In order to turn down anything, that something needs to be available.
How stupid Jeffery sounds for being so B O O K smart !!! He speaks the truth about “”some”" people declining a job because it is less desirable then the one the person…some people do exactly that. His stupidity comes from implying that ALL of us are that way. A vary small number, out of MILLIONS will do that. More want to work, at anything, just to be earning a paycheck, which he obvously does not earn. For him to say that, is like saying that politicians think of us first…LOL…which we all know that to be not true.
Everyone needs to email Harry Reid to recall the Senate, or he will recieve a NO VOTE in Nov. How many millions of people out there would vote for him if he recalled the Senate to address and vote for this Bill ??
I can not wait 6 weeks to 3 months for any benefits to come thru, can you ?
The march on the 12th, back in DC, why did they not hold this march when the Senate was IN Session ??? Nobady is there now.
It is time to Revolt, just like in Los Angeles, they call it a riot, yet it really was a revolt.
oh, it was also a piece for FOX News..the biggest anti american corporation we have the United States. A corporation that speaks of false history as facts for its propoganda…they are the first ones that should have their offices and CEO’s dealt with.
Mr. Havard keep your negativity to yourself …we heard enough neg and have paid a price we were never suppose to !!! look we can say that about anyone from Tier 1-thru 4 ..that we are too lazy..not!!!and i refuse to downgrade anyone to needs help..you should try to do the same…I feel so sorry for you..you cant see reality when the expensive school books hit ya in the face! Are you Human???
You all have to read Jeffrey’s blog. Read the piece that he wrote about medical marijuana. It will give you insight into his state of mind. He said that he thinks that marijuana ought to be legalized, but he thinks that Walmart should be able to fire people who test positive for marijuana even if it is used legally for medicinal purposes. I wonder if he thinks that Harvard should be able to fire on the same basis? It’s interesting that an economist blogs about weed. A self-serving opinion?
Im thinking F _ _ K YOU! We need money for basic survival. No matter your opinions. Emergency situation is here!
What is this economists name? I find it strange that he didnt produce a name. How can we be sure he isnt talking out his …
Its easy to talk trash about others when you have a job. Walk in our shoes moron so you can see what it feels like to lose your home and vehicle and have to go on welfare just to be able to eat. F**k you you self righteous f**ktard, go kill yourself.
Are you the one that answered your cell phone during the interview I gave you last week?
harvard puke!!! trying to make a name for himself-find me a job Mr. Know it all – born with a silver spoon and d*ck in my mouth!!
Bob Pinto, Trumbull,Ct
go take some more oxycodone you druggie!!!
I used to work in Electronic Publications at a major university press.
I have applied to be a security guard and have not been called back.
I have applied for clerical jobs and been told, “You don’t want this job,” or “You’re overqualified.”
Or, sometimes I’m one of the top 5, but I still don’t get the job. At least when you’re the Miss America runner-up, you get a sash, tiara, and a crummy little scholarship.
Being runner-up at getting the job gets you jack. And it doesn’t matter in the job interview if you explain this. Employers don’t believe you. Or care. Or, as mentioned previously, if you have tech skills that the average worker doesn’t have, interviewers get intimidated and won’t hire you.
I’ve had interviewers suck in their breath when I told them I learned UNIX on my last job. I’m sorry, but UNIX is NOT HARD. All of the commands are in English, and it’s a really easy thing to understand.
Meanwhile the interviewer is in a sheer blind panic that he/she is talking to a smart person. The assumption is that I’ll be gunning for their job. I won’t. I don’t care about that. I just want to be useful again.
Frankly, I’ve learned to not mention any of my best skills (knowing HTML, UNIX, and LaTeX), because I know the interview is over when I see the interviewer give me a blank stare and then see his/her eyes dart around.
I am going to learn how to do alterations. Hopefully I can learn to do bridal and formals alterations – people will always marry. It would be a skill I would be proud of. Why would I be proud, if my previous job was an internet-based job?
BECAUSE I WOULD HAVE A GODDAMN JOB. THAT’S WHY.
Anyone who thinks I haven’t tried or am lazy can suck it. That includes my own mom.
Wow you’re too good to be true…why is it you weren’t scooped up years ago. It isn’t helping you so far..so I would knock off what ever you’re doing.
The Harvard economists answer to creating jobs and digging U.S. out of its woes? Frustrate the elected government of the day from doing its job! Traitor!
“The best hope for improvement, in my view, is enough Republican victories in November to produce gridlock in Washington. It’s not that the Republicans are so great on economic policy, although on balance they are probably a smidge better than the Democrats. It’s that doing nothing is likely to be better than whatever new policies a Democratic controlled Congress would generate.”

Welcome to America!! Welcome to the “Greatest” country in the world. People have always looked up to America, the greatest country in the World, the land of opportunities. WE ARE AMERICANS, EDUCATED, MODEL CITIZENS, LAW-ABIDING citizens.
Who deserves the tax money we always paid? US the Citizens of this great country who need a pay back in a time or crises? or Russia or Greece, who keep getting aid money in millions and billions. And the shitty congress we have turns its back on us and take a month vacation in the midst of our crises!! What the hell is that, are those the people we elected?!!
God help us, nobody else will!!
To “Harvard Whoever you are”
God Bless You! more abundant blessings to come your way….
I pray that you’ll not suffer financially
With reference to the statement made by the Harvard economist in the above article. I would like to see him out of work and trying to get work while taking care of a family and trying to pay bills to keep a roof over our heads. It is time to listen to the struggling Americans that are going through tough financial times, they were are will be again the backbone of America.
The lack of jobs discourage job hunting! Anything to point the finger at anyone but the republicants. When you point at someone there are three fingers pointing right back at YOU! Whe will colleges start providing courses in COMMON SENSE?
I have been looking for work going on two years now. Does harvard think I wanted my house to be taken away? Everything I worked for is now gone and someone has the nerve to say this crap. I just wish I could get in front these assholes and show them how I feel about it.
To ALL the people who make comments on these blogs putting down the unemployed workers. If you are not unemployed yourself why the Fk are you even on here? Does your mommy know you are playing on her computer? You must not feel secure in your job if you are investigating unemployment benefits.I mean you dont spend time shopping around for cars if you are not in the market to buy one! I guarantee you only talk crap on the blogs, go talk that s!#t to one of our faces. We all have plenty of time on our hands to stomp a mud hole in your ass, and Im sure we could all use the opportunity for the stress release! I know I could. Theres no doubt in my mind you tell your unemployed friends you wish they would extend benefits then hide in your mommys house and blog your BS.
The standard failure’s response..in you mothers basement/house wanting to mess with the ue.
Uhhh some people are making money by going to these sites and bring different perspectives. Its not all about you, and remember that.
HEY GET A LIFE AND STOP F-CKING AROUND ON THIS SITE —- AND PEOPLE PLEASE STOP FEEDING INTO THIS ASSHOLES COMMENTS HE HAS NOTHING BETTER TO DO .LIKE I SAID EARLIER DA$H GO GET LAID BY YOUR MOTHER YOUR SISTER YOUR BOYFRIEND YOUR DOG BECAUSE A ASSHOLE LIKE YOU CAN’T HAVE A GIRLFRIEND. I WISH THE BEST IN LIFE MORON
Maybe this is why you don’t have a job. Wouldn’t your mommy be proud if she read this?
Sounds like this study was fixed, maybe by the REPS.
Is Dr. Jeffrey Moron cognizant of the fact that there are millions of unemployed and underemployed competing in a limited job market. This economy is unforgiving, and many are grateful to accept any job offered because being homeless is a difficult and dangerous way to live.
Honestly, is there anybody out there that has ANY respect for what a “harvard” economist has to say? Think of the jerk that, as slick willy likes to brag, “taught me all I know about economics” Lawrence Summers. There’s a real genius. Now he’s “advising” Obomber -
Iteresting, our foremost economist, Greenspan says we need tier5 and this idiot makes a quote in Faux News (what the hell is Faux news anyway) and he is considered to be an expert….whatever. i am sick and tired of the games being played be republicans to cloud issues at every front. I am also tired of the Administration talking about jobs creation for the last 7 months when so many are out of work. I am an Obama supporter, but you are out of touch. Your wife takes an ill advised trip with the girls to Spain, which cost tax payers millions, instead of making the right/moral choice and going to the Gulf which may have increased tourism. The to make matters worse, the trip to Martha’s Vineyard. I am a bostonian with a family house on MV, i am by no means rich. i am unemployed barely keeping my head above water. the house has been rented all summer which is the only thing keeping it from either being sold or foreclosed on. I just wish this congress and senate would wake up. We have Kerry buying a 7 million dollar boat. instead of having it built in the states which could have employed a number of people for years, he has it built in New Zealand. The he tries to avoid paying taxes by having the boat docked in RI instead of Massachusetts to avoid paying the $70K in taxes on a $7.5 million dollar boat. These guys and gals are so out of touch it just insane. Come November, the Pelosi’s, Reid’s and Kerry’s of the world need to be ousted. This is ridiculous
Where do these dumb asses come up with this stuff. There are no jobs to look for. I have looked continuously for 2 years; put out probably close to 1500 resumes and still NOTHING.
If you read this joker’s blog, you’ll understand much, much more. He writes about the legalization of marijuana at least once a month. What interest would a legitimate economist have in the legalization of marijuana? Unless of course… The article doesn’t say what time it was that he made this statement, but I’m willing to bet that it was sometime shortly after 4:20. You’d have to be high not to recognize that a recession causes unemployment and unemployment exacerbates a recession. Econ 101.
It’s not true, that unemployment extension discourage job hunting, I have been looking for job last two years, that time I was getting unemployment benefits still I was looking for job desperatly. I worked 20 years continueously, this Hovard Economist whoever, trying to misguide people.
It is obvious Mr. Miron has never been without a job or has struggled. All I can say is until you have experienced unemployment Mr. Miron, don’t knock others who have. What goes around will come around to you someday. The problem with “educated” individuals is that they think they know it all and all they really are are educated fools. Book learning is one thing, but experiencing life at its worse is another and both go hand in hand, Mr. Miron. Judge not that you may not be judged also.
I think the unemployment rate is like 30 per cent not 10 or 11. Once your no longer paid. You don’t count.
So true. And it gets me when the say that so many “have stopped looking”. What makes them think they stopped looking because they’re no longer being counted. It’s like oh, since you no longer get unemployment you no longer should look for a job, we’ll get by fine so I’ll just give up and stop looking, food will fall from the sky? My mortgage company will understand and just let me live here. How crazy.
I have a college degree, made 60,000 per year when I lost my job almost 3 years ago. I’ve applied for anything, but have suffered much as many people in the overqualified rap, your unemployed too long, too old, 500 applicants per job, etc. On and On and On…
I’ve lost my savings. My unemployment ran out. I don’t qualify for any monetary Welfare. I’m homeless now and live on the street or in my 1991 car, now out of gas. Eat in soup kitchens.
It cracks me up when they say unemployment benefits have dropped. I guess, now that 3 million have lost benefits in the first wave. I crack up even farther when they say the economy is recovering, yet no one is going back to work and hundreds of thousands of jobs are still being lost each month. This AM, I heard that our State Police cannot open a new class of cadets this year due to budget cuts.
I think the unemployment rate is more like 30% than 11%. Mostly, they get unemployment % rates from unemployment compensation benefit applications. If thousands or millions have lost their benefits, there is no way to accurately calculate how many people are still unemployed.
I saw the job market beginning to stall all they way back at 911, yet our government stated the economy was fine all these years.
Another over-educated moron with no common sense. The jobs vs unemployed ratio kinda (duh) makes a difference in today’s job seeker’s world not to mention the employer discrimination. Fox News…so fair and balanced. What a joke.
It is a Shame, that these rich idiots who get huge grants from us tax payers for such stupid research.
I have been unemployed now for over 2 years, had 2 jobs in that time since collecting unemployment, and got laid off from both. since i expired my unemployment, i had to go bankdrupt, and force my self to live on a $1.00 a day food budjet. I was once proud and had pride working and paying for my way. Now im ashamed to ask for food stamps. I hunt for food that is thrown out in supermarketdumpsters, What else can i do, I went from a $65.000 a year job to a Bum in the street. I would be glad to work for $2.00 per hour just for food. So you rich fat ass repubs and you college big mouths with your ideas unemployment will discourage from seeking work. Well I say may God punish u so bad you have to live like me and suffer each day wanting your pride and job back. so many of us unemployed are suffering at the hands of idiots refusing to accept the fact we need help.
By the college professor, I never thouth the day would come i would be Penniless…This can happen to you and I hope it does.
Well, there’s only one problem with that little theory….there aren’t even any less paying jibs out there for people to even consider taking for less…there are still 200 applicants for EVERY job in america and that DOES include BURGER KING!
My ex boyfriend is a Harvard grad and is a Moron too. This guy just made Harvard look bad. I don’t listen to any Harvard opinions since hearing about the guy from another country who conned his way into the school just this past year with fake transcripts and recomendation letters. They don’t even know who they’re admitting these days. Don’t listen to anything this guy says. AMERICA NEEDS A TIER V!
I am so sorry of all these jackass high class punks talking out their ass. I still say lets take names and start our march to take our country back. What have we to lose? they took break we were not on their minds so lets not take it any longer.
Harvard POS! He’s had the world handed to him all his life. Probably has never had to do a real days work his entire life. Pathetic POS!
Will and Dash –Sound like you punks need a good ass-whooping…people have committed suicide because of this economic situation that was no fault of their own…there is blood on peoples hands …unfortunately its not you two mindless idiots blood on my hands …Will and Dash–You are pathetic COWARDS …Why don’t you both get married and move out of America ?
U-S-A U-S-A U-S-A
Suicide IS the coward’s way out
Don’t even try to make this out to be us against them. We didn’t say go kill yourself.
Dsah and Will…Sounds almost like Jack and Jill….U..S..A…my ass …You are the COWARDS…Move away …this is not your country …You don’t have a clue…If you have all this time on your hands to write imbecilic messages …why don’t you show us where these jobs are ? Some examples for instance ?…No ?…I thought as much…Stick your heads back in your ass …
By the way,I’m sick and tired of these lousy no good excuse for a human being so called economic experts telling us that there is employment available…where???? where is it???they sit up there totally de-sensitizes and have no idea just how bad the job situation really is…..they simply try to imprudently surmise that there automatically should be jobs because its been so long that the unemployment rate’s been so high and the emergency has not abated…at aaaaaaaaaaallaa1 before they open their stupid mouths maybe they could do a little simple research???Hello??? the unemployment rate of 10% hasnt changed people!…..and the attitude of necessity should dnot abate either just because of the amount of time…these f****cking idiots need to shut up! If anything we will probably need way more assistance than this even….can the sorry bastards tell us when the unemployment rate will go down? that is what these Harvard morons should be analyzing….not this!Stand up people! If the illegal, thats right,ILLEGAL immigrants can riot in the streets and tear down office buildings and overturn cars in the streets even after getting what they want and not get in trouble for it where the hell is our gumption on something that is far more important?Theyre not even legal for God’sake!let’s stand up and be heard!
I would say about 99. Something percent, all want to work and to find a job. But they just aren’t there and lost their job at no fault of their own. I bet that if any body would like to give up there job and change places with one of the unemployed workers. You won’t see anybody.
The people with jobs beware you to could become one with out one. It’s easy to think and say things about people, but maybe if you go yourself, you will have a better insight to reality.
For all of you with good secure jobs with big mouths, I would invite you to come join us and see how you will feel or just live in one of the millions of unemployed people’s shoes. Because nothing is for sure accept you know the inevitable. So I would be warned to you not to curse yourself, and go spend your money, and help out the economy, and just feel lucky, you will think genius.
What was this guys name? Professor Moron? He should get out from behind his desk and take a look in the real world. These people are paying there bills and buying stuff they need. How won’t that stimulate the economy?
Hey Professor Moron. You don’t need a Harvard Degree to get this. If people can’t pay there bills and company can’t get there money, then they will have to raise there prices. We will have to pay for it anyway and people will be destitute.
These people already paid taxes all there life the government is the real crooks. They take so much in taxes it is a wonder any of us can live.
Hey Professor Moron, bad economy + zero jobs = can’t find a job.
Go back to your desk Moron.
I have one big question what is the FAIR TRADE ACT, and who is it really fair for, but most of really know and the ones that don’t know need to. IT IS FOR THE WEALTHEST FEW, and boy where they really happy, and it is great for them, but I think they got the name wrong, It should be called the UNFAIR TRADE ACT and that is exactly what it is for the MANY Americans with no jobs. There’s your manufacturing jobs its really quite simple but ahhhh, let me think what should we do to get them back well how about nothing, but we’ve already done that. How about let’s try something new and what could that be!
What about that great tax reform of 1986 which gave the biggest tax breaks? To the wealthiest few, and then started taxing unemployment benefits who are mostly the many, at the bottom of tax earners. Which is still in effect today, the first 2400 dollars off the top for 2009 what a joke? How about that tax break back for when you’re down even that would help WE THE PEOPLE
Now with construction and housing failed, America’s real backbone we want our money back the FEW stole it from us, it didn’t just disappear its somewhere in the world and they’re ha ha laughing all the way to banks
I have another great idea how about creating some real jobs in our own country, instead of selling and giving away our jobs to foreign lands abroad for the few rich to get richer and selling out our own people, of this great land.
There are thousands of high tech jobs in US that are not available to US citizens. Big companies are allowed by our government to bring foreign technical people to the USA from overseas, pay them less and eliminate jobs for American.. This is possible via the h1b1 visa program. These foreigners come over on this work visa and replace an American worker. After they are here they bring in their friends and family and get them hired where they are working.
Ask you Congressman to explain why this exists.
That’s not counting all of the other foreigners from far away lands that come to this country that the government subsidizes and every thing is free and every body can see it, all bet some of you Anonymous said… can tell some real story’s. The government also subsidizes and will pay one half of wages to some corporations as kick backs for foreigners to take Americans jobs, kick in the face. Not to count all the jobs outsourced over seas that we can see, we all no that but what are we to-do.
Here is my letter to Jeffrey Miron:
I have to tell you that what you say may be true, but there are reasons other than not wanting to work that apply! If you are serious about what you have said then you should, like any scholar, do a white paper on this statement. This way you can back your statement with some hard facts. My suggestion is take a leave of absence for a year, and only give yourself a budget reflecting what you would receive from unemployment. Don’t forget to reduce this amount for the taxes taken out. This way you won’t have to pay taxes on the full amount, only some of it for next year. Now try and get a job or two at some of the more available employers, such as McDonalds, Wal-Mart, etc. Then come back and support that statement your results. Also, you are not allowed to use any money from other resources. Since, like us 99er’s you are referring to, you have exhausted any resources way before your last layoff, or plant closing(my situation). Two other items that need attention. First is, I am 57, going back to college to get a B.A. in Computer Information Science. A two year session for me. This is because my past experience was in manufacturing as an electronic technician. Which no longer exists in my location. This brings up the second point. Being an Economists, you surely would know that job availability has slowly, but steadily been declining since 2000. That is due to foreign competition and United States corporations outsourcing American jobs! Have you not noticed that everything you buy is made in another country? There are countless other reasons why us 99er’s cannot either find work or take what is available. That said, I am serious about you doing a white paper on this subject that you have made a statement about.
This is a great idea Joe! Except if he truly wants to see what the 99ers are going through then he should do all of his work without any income! He needs to cancel his health insurance also.
This is all so sad. Fellow 99ers, there is so much ignorance. Please don’t waste your energy arguing with people like Dash, and this guy from Harvard scares me that he can be such an idiot after getting a college degree. Gee, does he even realize, an economist, that unemployed people pay taxes? I got my degrees from state colleges, working man’s colleges. Just please keep calling your senators and congressmen and forget about the ignorance here. Some of these people cannot even spell or use grammar correctly. So why care what they think?
Tier 5 has been unemployed for the longest amount of time, don’t you think after two years without a job and now NOTHING that 99ers aren’t looking for income? Where is your common sense, help the ones that have been WITHOUT for the longest amount of time. My benefits have been cut off since January … no job, no unemployment, full time student now and no extension for people like me. VERY SAD :(
That’s right go tell the mud and blood in the trenches, real story”s. Get a real small insight into reality of what many red blooded Americans are going through in this said lightly down turn Economy. Create jobs if your so smart Show where they are. I know theirs a lot of pot holes out there lets fix-em. How about some more Tax breaks for the wealthiest 2% maybe that would help Mr Moran golden spoon, or how about raise gas to over 5 dollars a gallon. Even with this controlled media people know and you will see soon enough.
Harvad makes 28 billon a year wtf are there putting there two cents in saying there work come to Michigan and show you how the whole state is turning into a ghetto.
If unemployment insurance is such a hand out then why is everyone taxed on it and why do we have to pay into it?There are so many out there eager to attack the working class and needy in this country!
This moron knows nothing about Economics! And love to see him in my shoes for one month!
This is nothing more than an idiotic comment from an overpaid professor that truly stays in an ivory tower. I have applied for jobs in 3 different counties and at almost every place in my town. I had a friend, who lost his benefits several months ago, commit suicide last week because he felt there was no hope for him and thought his family would be better off if he were no longer around. He was living in his van and his wife and child were in a shelter. He couldn’t find a shelter that would take him because they were all full. He didn’t have any gas for his van so he walked to places to apply for jobs. At two different fast food places he was told he was too old to work there. He was 60 and had worked for over 30 years before this happened. Does this stupid Harvard Economist think it was easier for this man to kill himself than to go look for a job? I know another lady that is living in a tent in the woods because she cannot find a job and has lost everything she owns. Does he call this living ‘high on the hog’? Get your nose out of your own rear end and come down to reality. People are dying. You cannot live on $300.00 a week. I would take a job anyday over unemployment. At least that way I would have a steady paycheck and wouldn’t have to worry that in a few weeks it was suddenly going to be cut. I would also have some health insurance which you do not get on unemployment. I hope Harvard realizes they have a true idiot in their midst and throws him out on his rear end. Then maybe he could experience the joys of unemployment. I think I will add in my prayers tonight that this person learns humility and compassion for his fellow man.
My unemployment is long gone and I still can’t find a job. These guys are paid to give lip service to this argument and that argument, all in the name of dragging it on. They’re professional liars that lie for a living.
You’re right. Probably the best thing we can do is ignore him. Just trying to push buttons.
Good point, Disgusted in Chicago. You are right! I wonder how much he was paid to make the argument for the other side and say he was from Harvard. Harvard should realize he is a traitor who can be bought off for his opinion, and Harvard should get him out of there. Yes, he should try being unemployed.
The revolt is coming and people that are posting rude comments plus this Harvard idiot is just trying to make it come immediately!
They mis-spelled his last name, moron not miron. He has failed to address the fact that there is only one job for every five people unemployed. I think Harvard needs to take a closer look at who it accepts and not at the money their family has in the bank. It is assholes like him that make Harvard a less creditable school.
Jeffery Miron is a MORON!!
Over 8 million jobs have been lost since December 2007. Just because he has his cozy no heavy lifting job at HARVARD doesn’t mean that he knows what he is talking about!!
Does this educated idiot know that the 99′s ran out of benefits starting back in either February or March, depending on what State a person lives in? Does this educated imbocile really think that all these people would rather go homeless rather than get up and go to work??
Does this MORON know that the real unemployment rate (G6) is really about 20% if not over that??
Does this MORON know that 27% of households across America have someone in them that is unemployed??
Jeffery MORON of Harvard!!
Jeffery MORON is a complete disgrace!!
Dash and moron are simply cowards…..they should go to Burger King and see if they could get hired….I would be willing to bet they wouldn’t.They need to shut their pie-holes and pray to whatever God they pray to that 1)they keep their poshy little little harvard jobs and 2)that no one from this thread finds their sorry ass…….lol
GOP! please cooperate with the democratic party to approve tier 5 unemployment extension as soon as possible!!! I think we would better off to help the unemployment people in this very tough time.
We need not to dump them on the streets and become homeless. this will create a national crisis or a battle zone like world wars. People will do whatever it takes to survive!!! (Killing field, raping, looting, burning, shooting, suicide, etc…). Remember the crisis in Los Angeles in 1994!!! This time would be 100 to 1000 times bigger!!!
Here is what we are telling every blogger and media outlet!
Harry Reid sent the Senate home till 9-13-10 without a 99er bill or the Small Business bill. Help remove Reid as leader of the Senate.
If you are a 99er or someone that has lost your benefits due to the Senate sitting on their hands. You can’t just blame the GOP. Yes they have blocked everything but there is a way to stop them blocking those issues. Senator Stabenow has a new bill for the 99ers but says she won’t offer it until after they go on break. That is what I am talking about, vacation is more important. Pelosi is calling the house back to pass a small jobs bill. This is for State workers (teachers, police and fireman). So Pelosi is showing toughness but Reid wants his vacation.
To make them (GOP) pass a benefit package for the 99ers and anyone that has lost their benefits the Democrats can force them to not go home until it is done. They also blocked a Small Lending bill for small business from community banks, this was a lending bill to create jobs and didn’t add a dime to the deficit. So that needs passed before one of them goes for over a month vacation. So when I say it just isn’t the GOP it is Harry Reid also he could be tough. If he thought it is more important for those that have lost than those that have allot and are going on vacation.
So flood Harry Reids phone lines and fax machines until he gets the message. If you don’t help then you have no right to complain. Here are the contact numbers:
Washington: Phone # 1-202-224-3542 Fax# 1-202 – 224-7327
Las Vegas: Phone # 1-702-388-5020 Fax# 1-702-388-5030
Carson City: Phone# 1-775-883-7343 Fax# 1-775-883-1980
Reno: Phone# 1-775-686-5770 Fax# 1-775-686-5757
Do not call if you do not have a calling plan that lets you call anywhere in the US without being charged for long distance. Use that money for your family. The rest of us have no excuse to complain then do nothing. Reid did go on vacation without fixing these issues so flood those state lines more. By the way I am not a 99er but believe they paid their taxes and they help build our country and helped pay for those in Washingtons easy lifestyles , now they need our help.
Good call Terry…literally…no excuses for those of us that do nothing but complain without calling…
Hey Harvard boy, I can trace my roots in this country on both my mother’s and father’s sides back to the colonies. In short, this country belongs to me by hereditary right. I noticed you made no mention of the $28 trillion given over to the internnational corporate mafia, but then you wouldn’t because you might be putting down many of your alumni.
I have news for you, pal, very soon the true American People are going to rise up and don’t be suprised if some American who has endurred the oppression perpatrated upon him for the past twenty years shows up one day and yanks that silver spoon out of your mouth and shoves it up your arrogant arse. In short, you can go to hell.
Miron is a libertarian with the Cato Institute, in addition to being a Harvard economist, so this explains much about his position.
http://jeffreymiron.com/
Even so, I’m sure he can explain where all these jobs that the 99ers are waiting around and not taking are?
Better check Harvard … maybe they’re hiring.
My kids came home from college only 1 of the 3 could find a summer job. They must be lazy to I guess.
I called… Everyone should call u can leave a voice mail for the jackass.
It’s Quite Obvious “Mr. Harvard” hasn’t stepped off the Campus in a couple Years, otherwise in might be in touch with “Reality”! I tell You what “Mr. Harvard”, You find The Jobs for Us and We will be more than Thrilled to take Them!! In the meantime, go back to the Drawing Board and Come up with a Job-Production Plan rather than “Assuming” those without Jobs are Enjoying the “Below-Poverty Level” Ride!!!
Unbelievable. Mr. Harvard, might I suggest you step out of your IVORY TOWER, and WALK around the Greater Boston area. Better yet, leave your comfortable confines and visit the unemployment office, in Massachusetts proper. While you’re there, you may want to perform an ACTUAL CASE STUDY, based on your States rate of 8.8% to 9.1% unemployment. WHO LET YOU OUT!
This is just rediculous. How can someone afford to even go out and look for employment with no income to even support life. This is coming from the world renowned Harvard University. Holy S*^& we are in more trouble than we thought if this is were our so called leader’s look for advise. Here’s the math. Im in Indiana and our maximum benifit is $390.00 a week. On average we see four and a half weeks roughly in the year. Add up your minimum cost of living which in this state is well over that amount for the average family of four. Roughly $2,400 is close to minimum. So we are roughly $800 short of even paying our bills. Lets see what we have left over to make multiple random trips to the unemployment office that has not produced a single call back in over 2 years for me with a resume that would have landed me $60,000+ a year minimum just over 2 years ago. Not to mention the companies that recieve a new hire benifit that hire just to fire/layoff for there end of the year new hire tax break. It is simple. Look at the number’s Harvard. Its math. DunDunDundadadaDun you have math courses there I would imagine. If you have a true number of roughly say 20,000,000 American’s that are able to work or whatever you wish to lable us; and a wopping 4 million get you hired so we can get you fired jobs available that will just end your suffering of paying unemployment how is the statement that extending benifits will discourage us even fit. Give me my job back then. How many of you Harvard jeniouses caused this mess in the first place? I guess that’s your so called intellect at work. Let’s play!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thank you Big Chief.
I live right down the road from Harvard U and these nasty privileged pricks. And I worked there for a year. Not ONE of these guys has ever been hungry for even ONE day (unless they WANTED to-diet or fast). Not ONE of them has a CLUE what it is like to worry about paying rent or mortgage, supporting a family, etc. Here is his phone number from the Harvard Directory: 617 495 8570 and his email is miron@fas.harvard.edu Let him know what you think. Just another publicity hound, know-nothing prick.
These Harvard rocket scientists need to to shed their wingtipped shoes and live with a 99er for the next 30 days while our Career Polititions relax from their $175.000.00 a year over stressed jobs. Possibly they might see the real picture of what is happening in the US. There are generations of people collecting Welfare and they don’t even have to Drug Test to get it. So don’t compare 99ers to them.
This Is what I e-mailed him. This Is his e-mail address.
Unemployment Extension Discourages Job Hunting. YOU ARE A IDIOT!! I would really like to see that the outcomewould be If you where unemployed and a 99er. People arent seating on there ass you jack ass!! All the money you spend on a edcuation didfnt do you a fucking bit of good!
Right off the bat, there are two major flaws in this reasoning. First off, rich people buy the same amount of stuff whether they pay for unemployment benefits or not — their personal spending doesn’t decrease because they pay taxes. ’99ers can’t buy stuff if they’re broke, so their personal spending is nil (they’re not participating in the economy at all). If you give the ’99ers money that was just sitting stagnant in the vaults of the wealthy, suddenly it’s participating in the economy, getting spent, moving around, and stimulating growth.
There’s another factor at work here as well. Democrats are deliberately using deficit spending (see below) to fund the unemployment extensions, which means that the money isn’t currently coming out of the taxpayers’ pockets, or even out of the government’s income. It’s coming out of the future, exactly like a bank loan. Yes, someday, we will have to pay it back — but by getting the money we need up front, we are stimulating the economy today. Economists are saying that the economy is slow because of lack of demand — well there’s no one ‘demanding’ more than the ’99ers, so if you give them money, they’ll spend it! And once the economy has recovered [boosted by the spending of the '99ers] — once we’re stable again — then we’ll have the resources to pay back the loan.
Either way you look at it, whether you fund unemployment benefits by taxation or by deficit spending, you get more money into the hands of the people that will spend it, which increases demand, which means we need more supply, which means more jobs. It’s win-win.
Myth #2: Unemployment Benefits Discourage Job Searching
Another major myth that gets spread around by those who haven’t ever been unemployed is that handing out unemployment checks keeps people from taking jobs that aren’t ideal for them — that they’ll stay on the dole despite a job offer because they believe they’ll find a better one down the line.
Milton asked the question, “At what point do we say we have to put aside compassion and worry about efficiency and worry about giving people stronger incentive to go back to work, even if it’s not the job they’d most prefer?”
Chief economist of the Concord Coalition and blogger at EconomistMom.com, Diane Lim Rogers, put it succinctly: “I think that might be a legitimate argument to make if the economy were in much better shape than it is. I mean the simple fact is there’s just not enough jobs out there, the jobs aren’t there to turn down. So I think the worry that benefits prevent people from looking is way overblown right now.”
Myth #3: Unemployment Benefits Are Killing the National Deficit
The GOP took this stance proudly and firmly when it voted against HR4213, the most recent successful unemployment extension. Deficit hawks rallied against the bill, insisting that it be ‘paid for’ rather than be added to the deficit.
To a point, defending the deficit is a very legitimate concern, but if politicians are concerned about the [less than $50 billion] dollars this bill would cost, let me propose an instant solution for you: End the Bush Tax Cuts. The ridiculous tax cuts for the rich given under the Bush administration saw the nation’s most wealthy triple their income over 8 years — while halving their tax contributions to our society at the same time. The government lost over $1 trillion per year from the Bush Tax Cuts, and by far the majority of that money was retained in the pockets of the ultra rich.
If you watch Fox News or follow the unemployment extension struggle online, you will see these myths and associated corollaries popping up constantly; they’re the backbone of the anti-unemployment extension rhetoric. They’re also patently false: the Tier 5 unemployment extension is the best thing that can happen to our country today if we don’t want millions of ’99ers turning desperate and hungry tomorrow.
GET YOUR HEAD OUT OF YOUR ASS!!!!

SONNY GUTIERREZ
Figures Harvard grad out of touch with real world. Most are.
In congress they voted they get a pension for life once no longer employed in congress. Even if house rep does one 2 year term paid for life. So they think it is basically okay for us to pay them for life but we fight for unemployment payments until UI rate get back to normal levels where its not 1 job for every one looking. They are such greedy heartless crooks. How come they are not worried about what that pension adds to deficit every year.
HARVARD???? ARE YOU FKKEN KIDDING ME?? HOW DARE SOME IVY-LEAGUER SAY ANYTHING CONCERNING THE STRUGGLING AMERICANS,SOME WHO HAVE WORKED 20 YERAS OR MORE (LIKE MYSELF).IF YOU ARE SO DAMN KNOWLEDGABLE CONCERNING THE NEEDS OF THE AMERICAN PEOPLE,THEN WHY THE HELL HAVEN’T YOU COME UP WITH A BETTER SOLUTION FOR THE ECONOMIC MESS THIS COUNTRY’S IN? A SOLUTION THAT BENEFITS ALL AMERICANS ..NOT JUST JUST RICH COLLEGE BOYS LIKE YOURSELF. TRY FEEDING YOUR FAMILY ON THE PEANUTS THAT UNEMPLOYMENT PAYS AND KEEP A ROOF OVER THEIR HEADS,AND KEEP UTILITIES ON THEN GET BACK TO ME.
Perhaps it’s a good idea to email Jeff Miron himself at (miron@fas.harvard.edu.). Apparently he’s never seen rough times…perhaps we should take his job away from him and watch him beg for help. we are educated people who lost jobs through no fault of our own….he nor do most care as long as life goes on for them…btw, Mr. Miron seems to have many opinions and answers for many issues in the world…lol..what a joke he is…
We need help not the retreading of old opinions. Why go to Harvard to listen to the double talk.
Since when did anyone from Harvard ever work for a living?
I have both a Ph.D. and Post Doctoral Research Fellowship from top ten schools in the U.S. At the very least that qualifies me as not being a complete moron. So Mr. Harvard expert, why would 99ers, who have NO money and are NOW unemployed with NO income, not be looking for work?
What do they have to gain by not working? And… if thrown a life line, you really think they will piss it away by not looking for work so they can just end up in this situation all over again? They must teach some special kind of economics and psychology at Harvard, because I have friends with AA degrees from San Diego State who can figure out for themselves that 99ers without jobs or money, if given the life line of unemployment, will use the money to buy ANTIDEPRESSANTS so they can be more effective in their job search!
Oh by the way Mr. Harvard holier than me genius God of the universe… I’ve worked since I was 15. I have also gone to school for 25 years at the expense to myself, not daddy, of $125K. After placing two drugs into clinical trials, one for HCV and another for bladder cancer, my job was off-shored to China. That means I was layed off numnuts. I have been unemployed for over three (3) years, have depleted my life savings, have sold all my possessions, and am now living in a spartan room in someone’s house.
I have no income, and run out of cash at the end of August. Since you’re a genius, I’ll presume you understand this means I’ll be thrown out into the street where I will land on my ass. You really think I want this, huh? I tell you what. You keep smoking the crack you’re on, and I’ll use the tier 5 unemployment for food, shelter and ANTIDEPRESSANTS!!!
WAY TO GO, JOE>>>>>
I have read almost all of these comments. I think that the Harvard economist is a non-person that just doesn’t exist. No one in this day and age could be such an idiot and still hold a job that he says he has. As for da$h, the other idiot, may the fleas of one thousand camels infest his crotch, and his arms be too short to scratch!!
In the words of the great Sean Connery “There endeth the lesson”.
Hey, it’s me again. I’ll bet anyone 1.00 that Miron and Da$h are sitting back laughing their asses off because they were out to get our blood boiling. That was their only mission. BOY DID IT WORK. I am a 99′er and I am old, I guess I’m screwed. I just hope I can afford my oxygen and wheelchair rental.
You know I am sick of all these studies about how unemployment compensation discourages job hunting. I talk to people everyday professionals and blue collar workers who are out of a job. The people who do all these studies do not realize there are no jobs out there. I have been looking for a job since November 2008. I have a college degree, a CPA license and over 15 years experience. I send out almost 50 resumes a day, been to several headhunters. I have applied at every job i can think of. I have applied at Walmart, McDonalds and any other minimum wage job I can find. Most of these jobs I am told I am over qualified. Most of the people I am talking too have worked hard all their lives and paid their taxes. Now they are just left out in the cold to survive on their own. The government needs to wake up and start creating jobs and get people back to work. I would like to the Harvard Grad in the unemployment line and see how he does.
Has anyone done any research on Dr. Jeffrey Miron outside of this statement that he made on FOX NEWS?
Mr. Harvard,
Do you ever come out from your air condition car and air condition office? people are looking for job like a crazy, There are no job out there? U id. people lost there house and came out streets. which country r u living? don’t U think only your self. I am sick tired of your comments everyday, different senators and different politics leader. stop playing games and dirty politics. for GOD SAKE STOP IT NOW.
Voting by flipping switches won’t change anything. Hasn’t worked in the past and won’t work in the future. However, pulling triggers has proven to be effective.
Mr Harvard economist —- please tell me what effect it would have on the economy if nobody had any money to pay for their basic needs. Would that increase the number of available jobs and if so, would it become a incentive for potential employees to apply for those jobs?
Hey 99′ers, we’ve been hanging on and there is no reason to get upset with “Dash”. He has been on many many blogs so cut him off at the knees, DO NOT RESPOND TO DASH!! As far as Mr. Jeffrey Miron is concerned, put your comments where they belong, on his Harvard website…Email: miron@fas.harvard.edu. Tel: 617-495-4129….if he actually cared about “we the people in lieu of being a plant for the Republicans” I suppose he would watch his mouth…loser…
I just love these Harvard Grads and their opinions. This guy obviously hasn’t had it hard in life. With his text books, and watching too much 24/7 News, what does he know? All of these people saying how much they need and want a job has to mean something. It’s sad what some people are going through who have worked all their lives. The Government has to get on the ball. Focus on job growth, tax breaks, incentives to hire. Businesses are not taken this Government seriously. They’re getting richer and the Working Class is getting poorer. Let’s get back to basics. Interview/hire, stop sending the majority of jobs overseas. That’s some of the problem. Now it’s catching up for the decisions to send jobs overseas and the Working Class are suffering. The majority of companies could care less. They’ll get one person to do the job of two/three employees, have part time jobs so they don’t have to pay benefits, don’t hire “mature” employees to keep the insurance rates/salaries down. We need good management in this Country who are for the Working Class.
When you have several premises , in this case one “disincentive”,and one of them is false then your conclusion is false. This idea of disincentive is a figment of the delusional mind.
What these morons do not understand is that the unemployed pay income taxes on these benefits. The mind set of some is unemployment benefits are free money. The unemployed have been paying taxes on unemployment benefits since the “Glorious Reagan Years” when the U.S. tax code was changed, to tax the only insurance policy when it pays out. So,some of that money does come back to the government in the form of tax revenues, and does not increase the deficit like massive tax cuts do.
Lets play with some numbers just like those who argue that the unemployed are looking for hand outs. There are approximately 306 million people in the U.S. with approximately 160 million people in the work force with 10% unemployed. The average family size is 4. Now multiply 4 by 16 million people and you get 64 million people. That is approximately 21% of the population unable to buy things they need let alone those things they want.
If the Republican’ts want any extension of benefits to be “paid for” then lets use the soon to be expiring “Bush Tax Cuts” to pay for them.
For those foolish enough to believe there was economic growth from 2002 to 2007, let’s discuss money, food, and energy. Could you buy more gold at 2007 prices with the 2007 GDP or at 2002 prices with the 2002 GDP? Could you buy more rice at 2007 prices with the 2007 GDP or at 2002 prices with the 2002 GDP? Could you buy more oil at 2007 prices with the 2007 GDP or at 2002 prices with the 2002 GDP? The answer in all three cases is 2002. Less wealth. Less food. Less energy. That is not growth. That is devaluation of currency.
No matter what unemployed do to find a job at any level. The math tells us 99ers numbers will grow when 1 job for every 5 unemployed looking. That is worse ratio in my lfie time at 53 years old. No matter what congress, media or so called economic experts think as to why 99ers are growing it has little to do with extended checks being paid. Its about the math just not enough jobs. The job fairy is not coming anytime soon to change that math. Millions more will become 99ers this year. So far all the things Congress has tried the stimulus plan has not created new jobs to hire even 50% of us. So again how long will they ignore the math?
The one and only way to revitalize the economy is with a combination of productivity (providing goods and services that people are willing to purchase) and frugality (saving and investing).
But the fool economists think that 70% of the economy is driven by consumer spending which in turn is fueled by debt. That somehow we can borrow and spend our way out of this mess and reflate the bubbles that their stupid theories created.
This is akin to the thinking in the early 20th century that high wages produced prosperity, an idea that drove the measures taken by Hoover and FDR. This is counterintuitive as we all can see it is prosperity that produces high wages.
During the Great Depression, Kellogg’s plant in Battle Creek, Michigan decided to run 4 6-hour shifts instead of 3 8-hour shifts at their plants. This meant their plants had 33% more people working but they were only working 30 hours a week. Today’s laws would severely penalize a company for implementing something like that. How many unemployed people today would be happy to work a 30-hour work week just to be working even if it meant they were only making 75% of a full-time wage? I think a great many would.
A side benefit for Kellogg’s was that as the economy recovered, they had an already trained workforce that could be moved to new plants and new production lines.
Hey, for all you hard working employed workers.. Idea, how about working a shorter week and you could use those hours for free time with your family/life. Then, hell, no need for unemployment benefits.. Let’s do it.. All in favor of people who are currently employed to give up 50% of their hours… Anyone? Let’s do this.. Since we have all these hard working types in here filled with that protestant work ethic lets do this.. The unemployed here will gladly free some of your time up and possibly show your boss how harder we can work.. So, lets do this…
Hey, Mr. Harvard? How about these noodles:
The unemployed are free to do nothing, since they are cut off from the means of production. . . . They become dangerous when they seek to do something significant with that freedom. . . . The real choice is not between wage labor and unemployment, but between free activity and alienated activity. . . .
what are the 99er’s to do bills need payed, utilities need payed, need food etc????? why isn’t this hardship being taken care of instead of congress going on vacation for the whole month they have nothing to worry about they don’t loose sleep at night worrying about where the money is coming from not right at All!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
So pretty much what he’s saying is that it’s his BELIEF that people will not pursue job opportunities if they have a “steady paycheck”??? This article, like FoxNews, is LAUGHABLE!!!! His no “fact based” statements are exactly what FoxNews licks their chops over and they figure because the douchebag has a Harvard degree people will pay attention and assume the diarhhea coming out of his mouth are based off of facts…… IDIOTS!!!! News flash……just because you have a degree from Harvard doesn’t mean you’re free to discuss topics you clearly no nothing about!!!!!!
I really get tired of listening to the legislation talk about how there are jobs out there and we do not want them because they are not what we want or paying enough. They tell us we need to have faith, hope, and charity. That is a bunch of hog-wash. I cannot even get a job for the life of me. I have tried and tried. I see some jobs out there for part time and for min. wage. I would have no problem if I was living in a household with three other families and had drug smuggling on the side:) The government should lower the cost of living. That would make it a little more plausible. I have children and need to buy supplies since the schools are having budget downfalls. I have faith that someday we as the people will get through these times. I do not have faith in the decision making that these money hungry politicians are rallying against the people to support their high interest money forwarding, under the table, swindlers. People talk about rallying to a spot to show the government how serious we are about the position we are in. The cost to get there is (driving, childcare, flying, etc…) not allowing. That is what the politicians want it to be. They want us to sit down and shut-up. I have hoped that the few people in power that care about this country and the people in it will be victorious. I do hope that the others will actually pull their heads out of the Richie-riches butts and see the light. You talk about we the people are not the enemy; but, I disagree on this issue. Some of the politicians are making us out to be the enemy so they can fight us. It is a sick twisted mentality. It is like the ostrich sticking his head in the sand when danger is around. The only thing is the danger is still around. The Ostrich just does not see it. So when the politicians pull their heads out of each other’s butts we the people will still be standing there with a look on our faces of ( what are you doing you moron). The whole charity issue is not going to happen. The charity funding is just as corrupt as the government. I do not see the filthy rich forking over money that they made so that they can go and do whatever they want to help out the fellow countryman. That would be absurd. In the eyes of someone who on a daily basis does not even pay for their own groceries (The butler did it). The rich are not even contemplating on how to help the middle class. They are worried about how they will not make enough to pay for their multiple houses. I believe in what Obama is trying to do for this country right now. I wish that the two major parties could come together and help this country and not themselves. That cannot happen though. It is like the saying keeping up with the joneses. The other party wants to one-up each other. That is sad. Well I wish the best for all us people [le hurting right now due to bad policies the legislation has created. God bless and keep your chin up. PEACE!!!
All I can say is this is a joke. Anyone that votes for these rep assholes is a fool. Unless your rich. Then I understand why. But if u work or worked for a living a hope your job is gone soon. Then u will pull your snobie head out of your ass
If you checked out Skippy’s Web Page, you’de see this guy is an Idiot… He has opinions that range from legalize Pot to Privatize Marraige, Birth Right Citizenship… Skippy has his Mouth in everything… And has no fact at all to back up any of the Ideas he has..
He might as well have started the Interview with
“I’m Skippy.. I went to Harvard… therefore, I have all the answers”…… NOT !!!
Don’t let this Moron bother you.. He has no Clue…
I am so sick of these experts, these stupid economists. Morin is an idiot. Why doesn’t he give Congress professional advice on how to get our country out of this depression. He instead loves to flap his gums about something he knows nothing about, the situation of the jobless victims the 99ers. What an IDIOT. If Morin and other such brillant minds gave their ideas on how to get our country out of this depression, we wouldn’t be in this fix. We want jobs, you idiot. JOBS, JOBS, JOBS! If no jobs are found, then Tier 5 is needed now. I would like to see Morin stand in front of 1 million unemployed people, the 99ers, and call them lazy. I think Morin should think twice before he says and writes about the 99ers. The 99ers are hot under the collar and won’t take any more crap from anyone especially someone who doesn’t know anything about the ecomony. Crawl back under your rock, moron Morin, you know nothing about nothing and stay there
All the 99ers in the area of Harvard should go to this guys office and then tell him reporting for work as ordered sir. If several hundred 99ers show up then he might get the idea that there are no jobs Next throw him out of his IVORY TOWER
Enough is enough! Legal U.S citizens unite! Help take the steps to save our country take our jobs back and stop this illegal immigrant invasion. Support our cause before illegal immigrant criminals have more rights than us. This is our last stand! If other online articles report unemployment is around 20% and there are 310 million in the U.S census reports. Then there is as many as 62 million people in the U.S that are unemployed & are able to work full-time. Do we have to reach 150 million unemployed before we take action? Also we must take steps to lower local city and state councilmen salaries too they are all robbing & hurting the people they serve. So please read and sign this online petition. “Petition to Reduce the Wages of Congress Men and Women from $174,000 per year to $50,000 per year at “change.org’. ” Link is below!
http://uspoverty.change.org/petitions/view/petition_to_reduce_the_wages_of_congress_men_and_women_from_174000_per_year_to_50000_per_year
Pass it on!
what i would like to know is how can our senators go on vacation every month and not have a guilty conscience dont they care about the american people i know if it was for helping foreign countries they would be on it quickly and give them billions of dollars so come on congress lets get this tier 5 and tier 6 going it is really getting redicoulis help should start here at home and i beleive every american feels the same way i do
Any empirical datum coming out of Harvard these days? Just more anecdotal B.S. And the Harvard “economists” have been so accurate in their predictions.
Carlo… are you for real…. What world are you living in? No jobs “means no jobs”. Companies are still laying people off. Discouraged, yes… still looking for any job yes. Out of money and benefits, yes. Hope you don’t find out the hard way by getting laid off with no hope to return to your job or very bleak prospects for finding another one. Who’s getting rich without a job…. get in line with all the other so called Harvard educated that will be laid off, which is bound to happen next. Good luck. Thanks for adding insult to injury.
No more entitlement programs, cut it off. Get off the couch, quit watching game shows
and pound the pavement. We need more funding for education and the military. More big bad boy bombs for the middle east. Whoo Raaw. Get those rubber shoes on and pound the pavement boys. Good luck, were all counting on you, BIG DADDY
Hey Big Daddy don’t call the rest of us when you start losing weight. Sounds like you consumed enough for three… As a conservative (look that up) you are blind or insensitively cruel. Try not to have a heart attack when you fill up your non-compassionate big belly. Weighing in at 104. What do you say you now? Good with your girth….
Lucky you…
You must work for the Senate!
I am in 100 degrees with no power or water or car insurance and they think that I do not want to work. I am starting to hate this country and its politics.
It is ridiculous how someone that gets a nice fat check every week comment on the live’s of millions of unemployed(99ers)that are struggling each and everyday with no answers and no help. we have families to be taken care they depends on us(99ers)because we are the ones that our children look up to the parents we need to clothe, shelter winter is right around the corner food on our table every day..it’s a disgrace and if you can call him a person is a heartless soul should keep his mouth shut and rethink his words..i look for work everyday im still waiting on the new jobs to immerge..soulless
To the obviously uneducated, mommy didn’t give me enough attention “DASH”…oops I forgot the dollar sign in your name.
You have absolutely no clue what you are talking about and quite honestly you sound as if you’re a little slow. For someone who claims to have a job you certainly have lots of time to be on message boards-you’ve commented countless times to bash people just to make yourself feel better..Get a life!
Try to see other peoples positions, they aren’t whining or crying or wanting pity, they’re merely commenting on a subject that is affecting their lives and making their voices heard. If you don’t like what you’re reading DON’T read it!!
All the time and energy you spent making fun of people could’ve been put to better use-like maybe working for example.
And karma is not for the weak minded as you stated, it is real. The only people who don’t believe in it are the one’s who always seem to get burned by it & are in denial.
Wake up, learn how to spell & stop being such a douche bag!!
ok harvard,so then why do we give benifits to anyone if it makes them not look ??
It’s amazing, how this ‘ECONOMY ELITIST’has an UNCANNY ability of,clumping ALL people on unemployment, as having no desire to work. He’s the type of person who is TOTALLY RACIST in any given situation!!! Example: ‘All, (add your own particular group) lazy, dishonest, liars, etc, etc. Get it?
WHY DOESN’T CONGRESS STOP PUNISHING THE 99?ERS THEY HAVE NOT DONE ANYTHING WRONG….THERE JUST ARE NOT ENOUGH JOBS OUT THERE..HOW COULD THEY BE SO CRUEL…..IT’S AS THOUGH CONGRESS WANT THE AMERICAN BORN CITIZENS TO SUFFER THERES ISN’T ANY OTHER EXPLANATION FOR THIS MADNESS…BUT YET THEY GIVE UNEMPLOYMENT BENEFITS TO PUERTO RICO AND DOES PUERTO RICO PAY INTO THE UNITED STATES SYSTEM?………
..NO ONE UNDERSTANDS THIS CRUELTY I AM NEAR BECOMING HOMELESS I AM A 99?ER I CALLED IN REGARDS TO THE EXPERIENCE WORKS PROGRAM AND THE FUNDING HAS STOPPED THERE IS A FREEZE ON THE PROGRAM….WHAT KIND OF HUMANE TORTURE IS THIS?……
WHITE HOUSE OFFICIALS SHOULD BE ASHAMED OF THEMSELVES……! I AM ON THE BRINK OF A HEART ATTACK FROM THE STRESS OF NOT HAVING ANY INCOME FOR AT LEAST 3 MONTHS NOW SINCE MY UNEMPLOYMENT HAS SEIZED….AND I AM LITERALLY ILL…AND ALMOST HOMELESS……PLEASE I SHOULD COUNT….HEAR MY CRIES I AM BEGGING FOR OUR CONGRESS TO HELP….WHY DO YOU WANT US TO SUFFER…I HAVE NEVER EXPERIENCED SUCH STRUGGLES IN ALL OF MY LIFE I HAVE ALWAYS WORKED….
HARVARD THE MAJORITY OF YOUR STAFF AND STUDENTS COME FROM FAMILIES WITH MONEY…THE STAFF AT HARVARD RECEIVE A FANTASTIC INCOME…HOW ABOUT BEFORE YOU POINT THE FINGER AT THE JOBLESS IF YOU GIVE UP YOUR JOB AND COME AND WAIT IN LINE AT THE MINISTRIES FOR FOOD (MOST OF THE FOOD IS OUT OF CODE) AND LIVE ON THIS TYPE OF NUTRITION..HOW ABOUT YOU HAVE YOUR UTILITIES CUT AND GET TOSSED OUT OF YOUR HOMES BECAUSE YOU CAN’T PAY YOUR WAY ANY LONGER…BE CAREFUL HARVARD WHAT GOES AROUND COMES AROUND HOPING YOU SEE THIS WAY OF LIFE SOON! BY THE WAY HARVARD ARE YOU HIRING……..???? ALL THE UNEMPLOYED WANT ARE JOBS….
HARVARD YOU SHOULD KNOW MATH CONCEPTS DO YOU THINK THE UNEMPLOYED ARE THAT STUPID THAT THEY DON’T KNOW THEY MAKE MORE MONEY BY WORKING….WHO DOESN’T WANT MORE MONEY…HEY HARVARD STOP LOWERING THE INTELLIGENCE OF THE UNEMPLOYED YOU DON’T KNOW HOW THEY FEEL…..SO STOP WITH THE INSULTS……FIRST YOU TAKE AWAY JOBS AND INSULT THOSE WHO ARE THE VICTIMS….ONLY HARVARD COULD BE SO CRUEL….!
Your a bunch of lazy nigers that don’t wanna work. Go get your welfare check you bums.
By your comment it is plain to read that you really do live in your mothers basement. You are a heartless and uncaring person. People with inteligence do not blog about lazy nigers! YOUR NOTHING BUT A CHILD STILL IN DIAPERS! Go back to your playpen! You may think its ok to send your tax dollar to our government for thier welfare checks but lately i have a problem with that. So get back to work because your politicians need another fancy vacation!
Please do not vote for any Republican candidates or Tea candidates!!!
The Tea Party, Coffee Party, Cognacs Party, Cigars Party, Animals Party, or the Porky Party are all related to the Republican Party!!! They shipped most of the jobs to overseas so the Rich get richer and the poor get poorer!!! They are going to screwed all of us, 99ers to be poor and poorer so they will tell us what to do!!!
They want to extend the tax cut from Bush Administration to the big Corporations and the Multimillionaires/Billionaires!!! While they blocked all of the Unemployment Extensions!!! They are blood suckers and very sneaky!!! This is the Principal Doctrine 101 of the Republican Party!!! Let’s vote them out from the Capitol Hill in November 2010 asap!!!
Please do not vote for any Republican candidates or Tea candidates!!!
Just another Harvard douche bag that doesn’t give a s..t about anyone who wasn’t born into a wealthy family and has to actually wake up and bust their a.. day in and day out to provide for their family, and can’t because our very own government has screwed our economy up so go…mn bad!!! And by the way, unemployment barely covers half of my monthly expenses so YES I would much rather be working instead of collecting these pennies that I’m getting bi-weekly.
So quit putting me and the ones like me in the same category as the money sucking potheads that are actually taking advantage of their unemployment benefits.I’m not a statistic, I am a human being who has three kids and wants no more then to live a comfortable way of life and provide for my family. so shut the F..ck up you “Harvard” nim wit and anyone who thinks like him.
Any of you 99ers that haven’t voted or Voted Republican, are in for a rudeeeeeeeeeeee awakening, you aint getting nothing now, the REPUBLICANS will see to that…..have a nice day.
After the banks decided to loan us all money. Are we now in the unfortunate circumstance of becoming indentured servants to this establishment. Needing to take just any job to stay afloat in this economy. The 99ers will soon move into poverty, as some of the wealthy become upper middle class. Unfortunately the situation was poorly planned. But by whom?
