Drug related violence once again took its toll over the week as three Americans were shot and killed near or in Ciudad Juarez in the escalating situation between the Juarez and Sinaloa.
“Two citizens were fatally shot early Sunday close to the Zaragoza international bridge. In a separate incident, another U.S. citizen was fatally wounded in Ciudad Juarez itself,” Philip Crowley of the State Department was quoted by CNN in an official statement.
“First, we offer our condolences to the families of the victims. We have been in touch with those families and are providing all possible assistance. We will support the Mexican government in the investigation that is already under way.”
There isn’t much information as to the identity of the Americans or the situation surrounding their deaths. We also don’t know if the there is some kind of connection between the three, though it seems unlikely.
Each of these deaths could very well be tourists who were caught in the crossfire of the increasing hostility between two cartels who are battling for routes into the United States. Deaths have been increasing, as have confrontations with police.
Thousands of deaths have been associated with this turf war.
