[Video] Sarah Palin Calls WikiLeaks Founder Julian Assange “Anti-American” with “Blood on His Hands”

Former Alaska governor Sarah Palin called WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange “an anti-American operative with blood on his hands.”

The prominent Republican said Assange should be hunted down like Al Qaeda’s leader Osama bin Laden.

In post she made on the social networking site, Facebook, Palin questioned the Obama administration’s handling of the WikiLeaks affair calling it “incompetent.”

“First and foremost, what steps were taken to stop Wikileaks director Julian Assange from distributing this highly sensitive classified material especially after he had already published material not once but twice in the previous months?” Palin wrote.

On 28 November 2010, Assange’s whistleblower site WikiLeaks released over 251,000 American diplomatic cables, some of which were labeled “classified” or “secret.” The cables detail communication between the U.S. State Department and its embassies around the world. Many observers think that the leak could have an impact on America’s relations with its allies.

In her Facebook outburst Palin asked why Assange is “not pursued with the same urgency we pursue al Qaeda and Taliban leaders?” The former vice-presidential candidate said the Obama administration is showing lack of effort in tracking down the WikiLeaks founder.

Meanwhile, U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder told the Washington Post that the Obama administration is conducting an “active, ongoing criminal investigation” into the controversial website. News sources also say that the U.S. has launched a criminal investigation on Assange to determine if he could be in violation of the Espionage Act for the release of the diplomatic cables.
The Australia-born Assange is believed to be in London. The Australian government had earlier condemned the leak calling it reckless and potentially damaging to national security interests. It had also warned Assange that he could face criminal charges if he ever returns to Australia.

Update: A Canadian official, Professor Tom Flanagan, during an interview on the CBS show ‘Power & Politics’, called for the “assassination of Julian Assange”, sayingBarack Obama should put out a contract and maybe use a drone or something to rid the world of Mr Assange”.

He added: “I think Assange should be assassinated actually …there is no good coming of this.”  Flanagan concluded the interview by saying “I wouldn’t feel unhappy if Assange disappeared.”

Professor Flanagan is an advisor to the Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper.
